The Veterinary Clinical Liaison (VCL) manages escalated or clinically complex communication with pet owners and referring veterinarians and prepares incoming remote cases for Sage Veterinary Imaging specialists. This is not a routine callback or general client-service role. It requires an experienced veterinary professional with a strong clinical background, high emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and the ability to work autonomously.
The VCL serves as the connection between DVMs and pet owners or referring veterinarians when concerns require clinical understanding, problem resolution, or coordinated follow-through. The role also ensures that specialists receive complete, well-prepared cases. This helps resolve concerns at the appropriate level, protects DVM clinical time, and supports efficient specialist workflows.
This is a remote, part-time role anticipated to work approximately four to six hours per day. It is well suited for an experienced veterinary professional—including a veterinary technician, veterinarian transitioning away from clinical practice, or retired veterinarian—who wants to remain involved in veterinary medicine without providing direct patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Escalated Client and Referring-Veterinarian Communication
- Manage escalated, sensitive, or clinically complex calls with pet owners and referring veterinarians.
- Review the medical record expeditiously to understand the clinical history, services provided, concern, and required follow-up.
- Obtain relevant information and direction from the responsible DVM through established workflows that minimize disruption to patient care.
- Communicate DVM-approved information clearly and accurately.
- Support assigned CATT calls related to feline hyperthyroidism and I-131 treatment.
- De-escalate concerns and resolve problems at the appropriate level while recognizing when DVM or leadership involvement is required.
- Support client and referring-veterinarian retention when service or communication concerns place the relationship at risk.
- Coordinate and track required follow-up through completion.
- Document communications, commitments, and outcomes accurately.
Clinical Communication and Follow-Up
- Gather the clinical context and guidance needed before contacting a pet owner or referring veterinarian.
- Relay approved clinical information without independently diagnosing, interpreting findings, or modifying a treatment plan.
- Route questions requiring clinical decision-making to the appropriate DVM.
- Keep DVMs informed and involved when their clinical input or follow-up is required.
- Identify recurring concerns and recommend improvements to communication or follow-up processes.
Teleradiology Case Preparation and Support
- Prepare incoming teleradiology cases for radiologist review.
- Confirm that each case includes accurate patient information, a complete clinical history, the referring DVM’s clinical question, relevant diagnostic results, images, prior studies, and required supporting records.
- Review records expeditiously to understand the clinical context and identify missing, conflicting, or unclear information.
- Obtain necessary information or clarification from the referring clinician.
- Organize case information to support efficient radiologist review.
- Prioritize and route cases according to established urgency and workflow standards.
- Monitor cases and coordinate follow-up when additional information is requested.
- Identify recurring case-submission issues and recommend process improvements.

- Solutions-oriented, with the judgment to resolve concerns at the appropriate level and escalate when needed.
- Organized, responsive, and committed to closing the loop.
- Comfortable balancing the needs of clients, referring veterinarians, DVMs, and specialists.
Required Qualifications
- Veterinary technician, RVT, CVT, LVT, Veterinarian (DVM) or veterinary professional with equivalent clinical experience.
