Sage Veterinary Imaging operates North America’s premier outpatient veterinary centers for cross-sectional imaging and neuroimaging. Our mission is to improve the lives of pets by getting answers through advanced, human-quality diagnostic imaging. Using the most advanced technologies—including 3T MRI, 128-slice CT, ultrasound, radiography, nuclear medicine, and digital cytology—we provide definitive diagnostic information for pets, their families, and referring veterinarians. In partnership with board-certified radiologists, neurologists, and other specialists, we help referring veterinarians make informed decisions and develop effective treatment plans.

We are seeking an experienced veterinarian who wants to bring their clinical expertise into advanced diagnostic imaging. The Imaging Director is responsible for the medical care, clinical decision-making, and coordination of patients undergoing imaging and related procedures. This individual evaluates patients, performs physical and neurologic examinations, manages anesthesia, responds to complications, and communicates with clients and referring veterinarians.

Initial Cross-Sectional Imaging Development

Due to the specialty-driven nature of our work, during the first 90 days, the Imaging Director will develop proficiency in Sage’s clinical workflows across:

• CT and MRI
• Neuroimaging
• Advanced ultrasound
• Scintigraphy
• Image-guided fine-needle aspiration
• Cerebrospinal fluid collection
• Intra-articular nuclear-medicine therapy for canine osteoarthritis
• Radiation safety and nuclear-medicine protocols

The clinical ramp-up will combine direct case experience, independent study, protocol review, specialist consultation, and competency assessment. The Imaging Director is expected to take ownership of their development, actively seek knowledge, apply feedback, and progress rapidly toward independent practice within Sage’s imaging model.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care and Medical Oversight

• Serve as the attending veterinarian for patients undergoing imaging, diagnostic procedures, and image-guided therapies.
• Perform complete physical examinations as indicated.
• Review patient histories, laboratory results, previous imaging, medications, and the referring veterinarian’s clinical questions.
• Assess each patient’s medical readiness, develop an appropriate sedation or anesthesia plan, and oversee the patient through the procedure and recovery.
• Recognize and manage anesthetic, procedural, and medical complications.
• Arrange stabilization, additional diagnostics, or transfer to specialty or emergency care when necessary.

Imaging and Clinical Decision-Making

• Understand the indications, limitations, and clinical value of CT, MRI, neuroimaging, ultrasound, scintigraphy, and related procedures.
• Select the imaging modality or combination of modalities best suited to answering the clinical question.
• Recognize when an initial study does not fully answer the clinical question and recommend additional imaging or diagnostic procedures when clinically warranted and in the patient’s best interest.
• Perform systematic neurologic examinations and communicate relevant findings and recommendations to referring veterinarians.
• Collaborate with referring veterinarians before and after imaging to support diagnostic decisions and continuity of care, while ongoing case management remains with the referring veterinarian.
• Coordinate effectively and efficiently with radiologists and neurologists on diagnostic and patient-care decisions, including specialty referral when indicated.
• Ensure relevant history, examination findings, and diagnostic information are available to the interpreting radiologist.
• Evaluate studies for technical and diagnostic completeness before the patient leaves the clinic.
• Perform designated procedures, including image-guided fine-needle aspiration and cerebrospinal fluid collection.
• Participate in intra-articular nuclear-medicine therapy for canine osteoarthritis, including Synovetin OA®, and other applicable image-guided or nuclear-medicine services. 
• Follow all medical, anesthesia, controlled-substance, radiation-safety, and documentation requirements.
• Help launch and continuously improve Sage Veterinary Imaging’s neuroimaging service

Clinical Workflow and Hospital Manager Partnership

• Partner with the Hospital Manager to maintain a safe, fluid, and efficient daily workflow.
• Ensure cases move efficiently from intake and medical evaluation through imaging, recovery, radiologist review, and discharge.
• Anticipate clinical barriers, communicate priorities, and address issues before they delay care or affect patient safety.
• Provide medical direction while enabling team members to work at the highest level of their training and experience.
• Identify opportunities to improve clinical protocols, case flow, technician training, and the patient and referring-veterinarian experience.

Clinical Communication

• Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners about procedures, risks, expectations, and discharge care.
• Serve as the clinical connection among the patient, client, referring veterinarian, clinic team, radiologist, and specialist.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical records.
• Communicate with authenticity, logic, empathy, and professionalism, including during complex or stressful situations.

Clinical Education and Mentorship

• Guide and mentor veterinary interns, trainees, and other clinical learners.
• Model sound clinical judgment, patient-first decision-making, and effective communication.
• Provide constructive, timely feedback while encouraging curiosity, accountability, and independent thinking.
• Create appropriate opportunities for learners to participate while maintaining patient safety, clinical quality, and efficient case flow.

The Veterinarian We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate is an experienced, independent veterinarian who:

• Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and confidently manages medically complex patients.
• Is curious, learns quickly, and is motivated to develop expertise in advanced imaging and neuroimaging.
• Makes patient-first decisions, including recommending additional imaging when clinically warranted.
• Collaborates effectively with clients, referring veterinarians, specialists, clinic team members, and administration.
• Remains composed, attentive, and decisive as cases evolve.
• Demonstrates initiative, accountability, humility, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited institution.
• Active Texas veterinary license or eligibility to obtain one.
• Three to five years of independent clinical practice; emergency or critical care experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong clinical foundation in patient assessment, anesthesia, and case management.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with referring veterinarians and specialists.
• Interest in teaching and mentoring veterinary interns and trainees.
• Demonstrated commitment to compassionate, patient-first care.

• Primarily daytime shifts

Work Location During Training

The initial 90-day clinical ramp-up will include periodic training at other Sage Veterinary Imaging locations to ensure appropriate exposure across imaging modalities, procedures, and therapies.
