The Program Leader is responsible for the leading, implementing and evaluating of programs. The Program Leader supervises employees and volunteers and monitors participants. Responsible for managing relationships with participants and parents.

We are an association formed by member agencies to provide community-based Therapeutic Recreation to individuals with disabilities and special needs. We provide year-round recreation, leisure and life skill activities that add to the quality of life for those who participate and their families.

+ Essential Job Functions

  • Carry out and lead recreation programs according to plans established by the Director of Programming, and provide feedback on program participation, effectiveness, and outcomes
  • Understand the needs of persons with disabilities and adapt activities to enable participation.
  • Prepare and implement behavior management strategies when necessary, to ensure safe involvement in recreation programs.
  • Directly supervises program aides and volunteers during programs.
  • Maintain constant communication and quality customer service with parents, staff, and participants.
  • Prepare and gather materials for program set up and assist in program clean up.
  • Responsible for collecting and turning in receipts from program expenses in a timely fashion.
  • Responsible for record-keeping such as attendance sheets, as well as incident and accident reporting forms, behavior reports, etc.
  • Report any problems or concerns to the Director of Programming.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals, and large and small groups of people.
  • Solve moderate to complex problems regarding the program, participants, or supervision of part-time employees and volunteers.
  • Operate RVSRA vehicles, including a 14-passenger bus, as needed. Must be at least 21 years of age to drive RVSRA vehicles.
  • Read, understand, and abide by all RVSRA policies and procedures.
  • Attend required RVSRA staff meetings, workshops, and trainings.

+ Preferred Education and Experience

  • No formal experience required; minimum one-year experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred; working knowledge of disabilities.
  • High school or college diploma required.
  • Current CPR certification or obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Availability to commit to assigned work times.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and demonstrate leadership skills. 

+ Evaluation and Review

  • Performance Evaluation completed by the Director of Programming annually.
  • Attend annual trainings and workshops to further education.


Immediate Supervisor: Director of Programming

Supervisor Duties: Program Aides and Volunteers

Hours of Work: Part-time, non-exempt position, with a maximum of 16 hours per week. Hours are primarily scheduled on weekday evenings and weekends, based on program and event needs. Some flexibility in availability is required.
