The Psychiatry Physician will deliver general psychiatric services including diagnosis, treatment, medication management, and psychotherapy. The physician will also collaborate with interdisciplinary behavioral health teams, provide telehealth consultations as needed, and adhere to all VA performance, documentation, and quality standards. This is a non-personal services position under a federal contract, and selected candidates will be credentialed and privileged by the VA.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations and provide ongoing medication management.
- Perform individual psychotherapy and general clinical management of adult male and female veterans.
- Provide treatment for anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, substance use disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other mental health conditions.
- Assess risk factors and coordinate care plans, including family or significant other involvement when appropriate.
- Collaborate with VA clinical team members in providing comprehensive care.
- Participate in direct supervision of mid-level psychiatric staff as applicable.
- Ensure timely documentation of patient care within the VA’s electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Provide professional support for peer reviews, tort claims, and benefit appeals.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, staff meetings, and required training.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from an accredited medical school
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)
- Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state or territory
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Must meet all VA credentialing and privileging requirements prior to assignment
- Must be technically proficient in English (speaking, reading, and writing)
- Must comply with all immunization and health screening requirements, including TB, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, and Influenza
Work Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Regular hours are Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM
- No weekend, holiday, or after-hours shifts required unless specified by the VA
- Tour of duty is subject to change based on VA facility needs
