RETHINK Retail is looking for a Sales Director to build and lead our project sales function. This is a player-coach role: you’ll carry a personal quota while recruiting, developing, and managing a small team of Account Executives. You’ll own the full sales cycle for sponsorships, branded content programs, event packages, and one-off project sales—working alongside our Client Advisory team, which manages long-term MAP retainer relationships separately. This role reports directly to the CEO. This is a new position at RETHINK Retail, which means you’re not inheriting a playbook, you're writing it. This role requires approximately one trip per month to attend industry conferences, client meetings, and company events

What You’ll Do

Carry and Close (50–60% of time)

  • Own a personal sales quota targeting approximately $750K-$1M  in annual one-off and project revenue.
  • Prospect, pitch, negotiate, and close sponsorship, branded content, and event partnership deals with retail brands, technology vendors, and service providers.
  • Manage a full-cycle pipeline from outbound prospecting through contract execution.
  • Develop and iterate on the RETHINK Retail sales playbook—pricing frameworks, objection handling, proposal templates, and pipeline stages.
  • Bring innovative campaign ideas to the table for RETHINK and our partners. This includes coming up with ways that we can capture the attention of advertisers and creative campaign ideas that will delight our clients and support our community.
  • Represent RETHINK Retail at industry conferences and events (approximately one trip per month), using these opportunities to build pipeline, deepen prospect relationships, and close deals in person.

Build and Lead the Team (30–40% of time)

  • Manage two Account Executives, with plans to grow the team as revenue scales.
  • Set individual AE quotas, design territory/account assignments, and run weekly pipeline reviews.
  • Coach AEs on prospecting, qualification, and closing—with a hands-on approach that includes joint calls and deal strategy sessions.
  • Establish sales KPIs and reporting cadence for the CEO and broader leadership team.

Collaborate Cross-Functionally (10% of time)

  • Partner with Client Advisory Directors on rules of engagement: advisory teams own upsell within their MAP accounts; your team owns net-new prospects.
  • Work with marketing on lead generation, event strategy, and brand positioning that supports the sales pipeline.
  • Provide market intelligence to leadership—what buyers are asking for, competitive pricing signals, and emerging opportunities in retail media and events.


What We’re Looking For

Required

  • 5–8 years in B2B sales, ideally in media, events, sponsorships, or professional services.
  • Proven track record of consistently exceeding quota as an individual contributor ($400K+ annually).
  • At least 1–2 years of experience managing or mentoring junior sales reps (formal or informal).
  • Experience building or significantly improving a sales process—pipeline stages, CRM discipline, forecasting methodology.
  • Strong outbound prospecting skills.
  • Comfort selling to VP/C-suite buyers at mid-market and enterprise companies.

Preferred

  • Experience in retail, retail media, or retail technology ecosystems.
  • Background selling sponsorships, branded content, or event partnerships.
  • Familiarity with the trade show and industry conference landscape (NRF, Shoptalk, etc.).
  • Experience at a company in the $3–10M revenue range where you had to be resourceful and build infrastructure.
