JOB TITLE: Weekend Lead

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, Part-Time

SALARY RANGE: Weekend Leads are paid at their hourly rate, plus an additional $1 per hour worked for Weekend Lead shifts 

WORK HOURS: 20 hours/week minimum, including a 7-hour Saturday or Sunday lead shift.

Scope of Position

The Weekend Lead plays an important role at Respite Care, Inc. because they are responsible for supporting the smooth operation of weekend programs and services. This is a Child Care Specialist position with added weekend leadership and coordination responsibilities. The Weekend Lead works alongside and supports the School Age Coordinator by assisting with staff support, program flow, documentation, family communication, medication inventory, scheduling updates, and general weekend operations to help maintain a safe, structured, and consistent environment for children and staff. 


Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist the School Age Coordinators with planning and/or implementing weekend program opportunities, including activities, special projects, and field trips.
  2. Work in partnership with the School Age Coordinator to support weekend programming, staffing needs, child supervision, and overall flow of the day.
  3. Complete weekly and monthly medication inventories and contact families regarding expired medications, as needed.
  4. Monitor child and staff weekend schedules, including schedule changes, call-outs, waitlist needs, and overall weekend coverage, in coordination with the School Age Coordinators.
  5. Update supervision, assign staff chores and support with other weekend documentation. 
  6. Answer phones and help oversee or support weekend visitors, volunteers, and family communication. 
  7. Serve as the on-call contact for questions on scheduled weekend shifts, providing support when not physically present at Respite Care, and communicate with the Admin on-call as required.
  8. Complete a weekend report and submit it to the Program team by the end of shift. 
  9. Support staff with behavior management, supervision, transitions, and classroom needs as they arise.
  10. Maintain clear communication with the School Age Program Coordinators and Program leadership regarding weekend updates, concerns, staffing needs, child care needs, and follow-up items.  
  11. Other duties as assigned 


Supervisory Responsibilities

This position oversees children and volunteers. This position provides leadership and direction to other Child Care Specialists while on shift.


Qualifications and Conditions of Employment

  1. CPR, First Aid and Medication Certification Level 2 required
  2. Medication Level 1 Certification preferred 
  3. Early Childhood Professional Credential Level 2 required
  4. Belief in Respite Care’s Mission and Philosophy
  5. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities
  6. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with families, staff, and volunteers
  7. Must be solutions oriented and have a positive attitude
  8. Comfortable working independently and making decisions during weekend shifts, including while serving as the on-call contact


Working Conditions

  • Ability to use computers and look at monitors several times per day
  • Ability to communicate professionally via email, phone, and in person
  • Ability to sit, stand and move throughout the facility and actively engage with children for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to safely assist children with activities of daily living including toileting, hygiene support
  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to children experiencing emotional distress, behavioral challenges, or medical needs.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, reach, bend at the waist, including carrying and/or lifting children weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in an active and sometimes noisy environment common in group child care settings
  • Ability to follow standard health and safety protocols that may include bodily fluids, cleaning tasks and sanitation protocols


Hours and Time Off

  • Minimum 20 hours per week, including a 7-hour leadership shift Saturday or Sunday
  • Must be available occasional evenings and weekends, including staff meetings and retreats
  • Time off must be approved in advance by Scheduling Coordinator
