JOB TITLE: School-Age Program Coordinator

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time

HOURLY HIRING RANGE: $24-$26, depending on experience and education

WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week, one weekend day required

REPORTS TO: Program Director

Scope of Position

The School Age Program Coordinator plays an important role at Respite Care, Inc. because they are responsible for the leadership and oversight of Respite Care’s School Age Program serving children 5 years to 18 years old. This role ensures the classrooms are prepared with engaging curriculum, structure, enrichment opportunities and supports the individual needs of each child and family. This role provides guidance and in-classroom support to maintain quality care and licensing compliance. The School Age Program Coordinator partners with families, therapists and staff to support individual goals, intakes, manage child paperwork, and to implement individualized care plans. This position also manages program logistics such as field trips and classroom schedules and is expected to be hands-on in the classroom as needed to support staff and model best practices. 


Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching and support to Child Care Specialists while serving as the first point of contact for on the floor decision making and problem solving.
  2. Design and implement age-appropriate programs and activities following guidelines of Be Ready and CO Shines to further promote children’s development.
  3. Collaborate with leadership to ensure classrooms are appropriately staffed based on ratios, qualifications and child needs, supporting real-time adjustments to staffing and classroom coverage throughout the day.
  4. Support and train staff in implementing individualized care plans, behavior support strategies, feeding techniques, and other specialized care needs, ensuring consistency, confidence, and adherence to best practices across the program.
  5. Participate in intakes, welcome new and returning families to Respite Care. Create cover sheets, dietary cards and other intake documents as needed for each new and returning child before their first day.
  6. Manage Field trip operations for the School Age Childhood Program.
  7. Lead and plan enrichment programming such as Wilderness Camp.
  8. Work closely with therapists, guardians, and other members of the Program Team to create goals for the children to meet. 
  9. Administer medications (after a minimum of 2 months employment and completion of required training).
  10. Provide direct care and step into classrooms as needed to support and model expectations.
  11. Communicate program progress with staff, guardians, and Board of Directors, as needed.
  12. Promote a positive, collaborative team environment while supporting consistency in routines, expectations and classroom structure.
  13. Other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day supervision and support to Child Care Specialists, in collaboration with the Program Director
  • Volunteers, in collaboration with Program Administrator


Qualifications and Conditions of Employment

  1. Belief in Respite Care’s Mission and Philosophy
  2. State of Colorado Early Childhood Teacher certification required
  3. Infant Program Supervisor Qualification or eligible to obtain within 30 days of hire preferred
  4. Must be a reliable and engaged team member who prioritizes effective communication
  5. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in person, online, and via phone
  6. Must be solutions oriented and have a positive attitude
  7. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint
  8. Must complete Child Care Specialist trainings in the event that support is needed on the child care floor


Working Conditions

  • Ability to use computers and look at monitors several times per day
  • Ability to communicate professionally via email, phone, and in person
  • Ability to sit, stand and move throughout the facility and actively engage with children for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to safely assist children with activities of daily living including toileting, hygiene support for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to children experiencing emotional distress, behavioral challenges, or medical needs.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, reach, bend at the waist, including carrying and/or lifting children weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in an active and sometimes noisy environment common in group child care settings
  • Ability to follow standard health and safety protocols that may include bodily fluids, cleaning tasks and sanitation protocols
  • Must possess a valid, current driver’s license and means of transportation


Hours and Time Off

  • Must be available to attend staff meetings 1-2 evenings per month
  • Must be available to attend occasional weekend events, including staff retreats, fundraising events, trainings, and on call situations
  • Time off must be approved in advance by Program Director
