We seek an experienced and confident Director of Client Services who will work with the Managing Partner to ensure excellent execution on the scope of work for each client, and manage a team of several people (employees and contractors) to carry out our B-to-B marketing and public relations work.



Remote or hybrid (based in Washington, D.C.)

Typical tasks include: 

Strategic communications

  • Join the Managing Partner in planning and executing successful marketing and PR campaigns for companies and organizations with innovations and climate solutions to sell
  • Facilitate brainstorming, planning, and training sessions with clients, our staff, and outside experts
  • Stay abreast of the field through continuing education both on and off the job

Client services

  • Manage a team of several people, both employees and contractors, in providing clients with expert media relations, social media, and writing and editing services, pitching in to help do the work when necessary, and setting an example based on your own experience
  • Serve as the primary point of contact to the majority of the firm’s clients, unless delegated, including leading regular weekly or biweekly check-in meetings, and helping to schedule group meetings with other staff when called for
  • Delegate client tasks from the Scope of Work and new requests to the appropriate staff member or contractor, adding each task to our internal project management system in Trello and marking when it’s done
  • Help refer clients to the appropriate conferences and awards programs (may be delegated)
  • Liaison to vendors such as graphic designers and videographers (may be delegated) 
  • Take part in training clients in media, presentation, and community outreach skills using our existing training materials and methods, and contributing new ones
  • Attend periodic in-person industry events such as the American Clean Power Association’s CLEANPOWER conference, the Solar Energy Industry Association’s RE+ conference (travel required), and local meetings of the Cleantech Leaders Roundtable

Personnel management

  • Train and mentor the members of the client services team
  • Maintain and report on company and individual metrics for time and profitability
  • Lead regular group meetings to review team performance metrics
  • Hold twice-a-month check-in meetings with direct reports
  • Assist the Business Manager in onboarding and training new staff members
  • Liaison to partner agencies and their staff members
  • Select, assign, and mentor undergraduate interns or graduate fellows (if desired)

Company marketing

  • Refer new business leads to the business management team for follow-up
  • Upon request, offer ideas for client proposals 
  • Suggest content for the company website and social channels
  • Contribute to our company library of case studies and training materials

Project management

  • Maintain client to-do lists in Trello
  • Identify areas for improvement and drive operational excellence

Continuing education: Training in the Entrepreneur Operating System and/or Growth Momentum Method for a smooth-running and profitable company; membership in a relevant networking group and/or attendance at a training or annual conference in this field; relevant webinars, books, and news subscriptions. 

Reports to: Managing Partner

Promotion path: Senior Director, Vice President, Partner


  • Bachelor's degree or higher level of education
  • 5-10 years of experience in communications, B-to-B marketing, or public relations, including strategic planning
  • A minimum of 3 years managing direct reports
  • Working knowledge of environmental issues, and ideally climate solutions such as renewable energy
  • Passion for supporting the clean energy transition and reversing the negative effects of climate change 

Compensation: $110,000 to $130,000 in base annual salary, plus bonuses based on personal and business performance, and a 10% commission for six months on any new business you refer and/or sign.

Benefits: Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Account for health insurance and medical expenses (for 2024, $6,150 per year or $512.50 per month). Employee-funded company 401k. Eleven paid federal holidays plus 4 weeks a year of combined vacation, personal time off, and sick leave.
