The Community Engagement Coordinator will lead outreach and engagement duties related to implementing Renaissance of Hope’s Neighborhood Framework Plan. The plan focuses on building new housing, creating commercial spaces, building outdoor public amenities, and providing home improvement services in the community. ROH intends to continue excellent stewardship of the community’s needs and actively engaging and listening to residents is key to this plan.

Description

Renaissance of Hope, Inc. (ROH) is the nonprofit development arm of Straight Gate International Church (SGIC). Its mission is to be an organization of true ministry, where divine resources meet human needs through loving channels, and to actively engage in nonprofit residential and community real estate programs for low and moderate-income individuals.

 

The vision and mission of this neighborhood approach is to create a well-connected, equitable neighborhood bound by the major transit corridors of Grand River and Livernois, utilizing these edges to define the neighborhood character and draw regional traffic. The neighborhood's Strategic Development Plan aims to build upon the history and strengths of the area by repurposing vacant buildings and lots while maximizing resources of existing spaces, organizations, and proposed projects to create a sense of ownership and pride in the neighborhood.


Responsibilities:

The Community Engagement Coordinator will lead outreach and engagement duties related to implementing Renaissance of Hope’s Neighborhood Framework Plan. The plan focuses on building new housing, creating commercial spaces, building outdoor public amenities, and providing home improvement services in the community. ROH intends to continue excellent stewardship of the community’s needs and actively engaging and listening to residents is key to this plan. Duties include, but are not limited to: 


  • Manage community event planning activities including selecting dates and locations, securing sponsorships, coordinating vendors and other vendors, and promoting the event to the community
  • Promote the organization’s mission through presentations and community events
  • Manage the organization’s outreach database and outreach efforts to increase population served
  • Research local needs in the community to develop programs that address those needs
  • Develop and execute strategies to improve community relations with the organization by building trust and relationships with community leaders
  • Work with local businesses to provide opportunities for them to support community initiatives or events
  • Direct outreach activities designed to raise awareness about ROH’s initiatives in the community
  • Manage outreach and engagement for home repair programs in the community 


Communication skills:  

  • Communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including community members, volunteers, donors, government officials and other community leaders. 
  • Active listening ability to create and maintain positive relationships with diverse groups of people 
  • Distribute marketing materials and develop social media posts


Marketing skills: 

  • Use marketing skills to plan and execute campaigns that encourage community members to participate in programs
  • Develop strategies to promote products and services

Problem-solving skills:

  • Work with neighbors, external and internal teams to find solutions to challenges that may arise in effectively communicating the organization’s programs, mission, and vision


Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience performing community outreach duties; and/or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as community development, social work, urban planning, communications, marketing or public relations. 
  • Knowledge of, or experience with, issues confronting low-income communities and families.
