Rally Senior Full-Stack Software Developer Remote · Full time

Rally is looking for a founding engineer to join our small (but mighty!) team of technologists and organizers.

Description

About Rally

Rally is a women-owned political technology company building a suite of tools that enable progressive political campaigns and advocacy organizations to run successful, data-driven relational organizing programs. Relational organizing is the simple, proven concept that people talking to their friends and family is more effective than strangers talking to strangers. Relational organizing isn’t new—but many progressive campaigns and organizations have yet to meaningfully build programs around asking people to disseminate messaging to their friends, persuade their family members, and mobilize their networks. That’s where we come in.

About the role

Our ideal candidate is full-stack with a particular interest in frontend development, is comfortable moving quickly and wearing many hats, and is passionate about the progressive political problem space. This person will work as a partner to Rally’s CTO as we complete and  iterate upon the minimum viable product that is already in the works for this election cycle, and additionally help design and plan for future growth in 2023 and beyond. This is a full-time, remote position that offers an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a young and fast-moving organization where you’ll be among colleagues who care as deeply about the future of our democracy as you do.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with our cross-functional team to understand requirements, design solutions, and continuously deliver high-quality, easy-to-use software to our clients, their staff, and volunteers across the county
  • Serve as the go-to person for all front-end related matters within our technology stack
  • Continually evolve our engineering practices and architectural designs to meet the needs of not only our current clients but lay a scalable, robust foundation upon which we can grow
  • Set the stage for an engineering team culture that is supportive, inclusive, and strategic, where mentorship, hands-on guidance, and collaboration is the norm

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of full-stack web development experience with any major server-side stack, relational database, and modern front-end framework. Experience in our stack (React, Remix, Postgres, GCP) is a plus, but not a requirement.
  • A strong background in leading cross-team and cross-application initiatives, and demonstrable experience coordinating engineering, product, design, and other stakeholders in these efforts
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum, XP, or Kanban and an understanding of how such practices benefit a software development team

Icing on the cake

  • Familiarity with Democratic tech ecosystem (VAN, TargetSmart, voter file wrangling)
  • Experience with Remix, Next.js, Gatsby, or another SSR framework
  • Interest in hiring and managing a team
  • Experience working remotely and/or working with teams that are distributed geographically
  • Experience deploying, configuring, and managing services through Google Cloud Platform

Compensation

Rally may be new, but we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this remote role is $120-150k annually, supplemented by a generous equity package. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.

Find yourself checking a lot of these boxes but doubting whether you should apply? If you meet some of the requirements and you share our values, we encourage you to reach out. As part of our ongoing commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, we're invested in building teams with a wide variety of backgrounds, identities, and experiences.
