As our Accounting Manager, you will be a key contributor to our finance team. You will report to the Finance Director and will play a critical role in our accounting and financial reporting functions, including working closely with the FP&A team and senior management.

The optimal candidate is excited about the potential of building and leading an accounting team in support of the brand’s top and bottom-line growth plans, as well as rolling up your sleeves to do the work to keep our current processes moving forward. 

Ideal experience would include a mix of public and private accounting, with experience leading month-end close and financial reporting in a fast-paced or high-growth environment. 

This role will be based in Chicago, IL at our company headquarters and will follow our hybrid working policies. 


  • Take ownership and responsibility of preparing monthly account reconciliations for areas including equity and share-based compensation, prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, and operating expenses (including marketing and software expenses)
  • Manage the month-end close process, including preparation of monthly financial reporting package 
  • Partner with FP&A team and business department owners to improve monitoring and tracking of operating expenses for corporate departments, advise on accounting policies, calculate and record appropriate accruals each month, and understand the key drivers and variances to budget/forecast
  • Continually develop, expand, and improve accounting processes within our ERP system, Netsuite
  • Liaise with external auditors and tax accountants
  • Manage AP and AR cycles, serving as main point of contact to external parties
  • Assist Finance Director with payroll and benefits management
  • Oversee sales tax filings with Avalara
  • Play an important role alongside the Finance Director in building out and eventually overseeing the Accounting team at Public Rec


  • 4+ years of relevant accounting experience, with a mix of private and public accounting experience preferred
  • Active CPA license preferred
  • Must be a highly organized, meticulous self-starter with the ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Able to work effectively with all levels of an organization and manage relationships with external parties
  • Strong Excel skills - must be comfortable analyzing and manipulating large data sets
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Thrives in a startup or high-growth environment
  • Netsuite experience preferred
  • Experience with inventory in e-commerce/direct-to-consumer product companies a plus
