Progress Michigan is seeking a full-time Communications and Partnerships Associate to assist Progress Michigan and its partners with a broad spectrum of communications work. This role involves writing, editing, sending and pitching communications and media materials. This position also assists with media events for partners, primarily in Detroit and Lansing, but will include assistance with groups across the state.

We are looking to fill this position ASAP and will be accepting applications on a rolling basis.


Progress Michigan acts as a communications hub for the progressive movement in Michigan, essentially serving as a marketing department and communications firm for our partners and allies. This role will be responsible for assisting with those efforts while adding communications capacity to Progress Michigan as a whole. 

The Communications and Partnerships Associate will be responsible for helping Progress Michigan execute strategic media campaigns. Additionally, this position will work with our statewide partner organizations to help increase their communications capacity and amplify their advocacy work. This position works with other communications, research, digital and creative staff at Progress Michigan to aid our partners and will report to Progress Michigan’s Communications Director.


The ideal candidate will have strong writing and communications skills, an understanding of Michigan politics and progressive causes, and the ability to effectively communicate with Progress Michigan and partner staff.

The position will be a hybrid position located in Detroit or Lansing with a combination of work from home and in-office/event flexibility.


Job Responsibilities

  • Write, edit and advise on partner communications materials
  • Manage and develop communications and media strategies for partners
  • Work with Progress Michigan’s digital and creative teams to develop materials for partners as well as our various organizational entities
  • Pitch to and engage with members of the media
  • Conduct communications and media trainings for partners
  • Assist with editing and reviewing other Progress Michigan communications materials
  • Represent Progress Michigan on partner coalition and campaign calls and meetings as needed
  • Other duties as assigned


 Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of political issues impacting Michiganders 
  • Experience and education (certificates, training, or higher education) in the political, public relations, media and/or other related communications fields
  • The ability to write professional communications materials
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Managing individual short- and long-term goals while working in a team environment
  • Strong sense of humor, and a sense of what’s appropriate in humor
  • Candidates must be located in Michigan


Compensation

This is a full-time position that will pay a salary of $55,000. Progress Michigan offers a competitive benefits package which includes health, vision and dental coverage as well as paid vacation, paid sick leave and 401K match.

Salary

$55,000 - $55,000 per year
