Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced VP of Engineering to join our growing engineering team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a hands-on, proven engineering executive in healthcare technology to manage a team of full-stack and backend engineers in developing platform microservices and web/mobile product solutions that improve patient outcomes in a remote patient monitoring domain. Reporting to the CEO, you will manage the performance and output of 5-8 software engineers to build and maintain our remote patient management platform and end-user mobile and web solutions. The ideal candidate will be passionate about maintaining, enhancing and delivering secured, compliant, scalable microservices backend and excited to work directly with product and engineering leadership to deliver cutting-edge software solutions following agile methodologies. This position is a full-time hybrid position with onsite presence as per the schedule proposed by the CEO.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage distributed engineering teams of 5-8 engineers across platform microservices and mobile application development
- Provide technical guidance and career development support to software engineers, senior engineers, and technical leads
- Drive technical decision-making for cloud-native platform microservices architecture and Flutter-based mobile and web applications
- Collaborate with CEO, Director of Product, and senior leadership to define technical roadmaps and engineering priorities
- Ensure scalable, secure, and compliant cloud-native architecture design for healthcare technology solutions
- Lead engineering initiatives for Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) solutions and connected health devices
- Manage integration projects with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems including Epic, Cerner, and Allscripts with knowledge on FHIR and HL7 standards
- Manage 3rd party technology integrations and partnerships that enhance platform and product capabilities
- Ensure all engineering deliverables comply with healthcare regulations including HIPAA, CCPA, GDPR, HITECH, ISO 27001, etc.
- Manage multiple concurrent engineering projects with cross-functional stakeholders including product, clinical, and regulatory teams
- Establish and maintain engineering team budget, staffing, delivery timelines, sprint planning, and release management processes
- Own and continuously evolve the company's agentic SDLC — the tooling, standards, context libraries, and governance that enable engineers to work effectively and safely with AI coding agents, including guardrails for output quality and compliance when AI systems touch PHI (e.g., HIPAA)
- Identify, prioritize, and lead AI-driven automation initiatives beyond engineering, partnering with clinical, product, operations, and administrative leaders to scope, pilot, and scale opportunities that improve efficiency and quality
Required Qualifications
Knowledge
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field (advanced degree preferred)
- 6+ years of engineering management experience leading remote development teams of 5-8 engineers
- 10+ years of hands-on software development experience with clear progression into technical leadership roles
- Proven track record in the US healthcare technology sector with deep understanding of regulatory landscape
- Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) system integrations with Epic and/or Cerner using FHIR and HL7 standards
- Expert understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and cloud-native technologies
- Understanding of healthcare-specific security requirements, encryption standards, and secure software development lifecycle
- Knowledge of Flutter framework, Dart programming (nice to have), and mobile application architecture patterns
- Working knowledge of agentic software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, including AI coding agents, context engineering, and AI-assisted development workflows across multi-repo environments
Skills
- Proven ability to build, manage, mentor, and scale remote engineering teams across multiple time zones
- Advanced skills in sprint planning, backlog management, and agile delivery practices
- Expertise in Flutter mobile and web app development, including state management, testing, and deployment
- Proficiency in microservices technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
- Advanced understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and cloud-native DevOps and DevSecOps practices for healthcare applications
- Practical experience integrating with major EHR systems and implementing healthcare workflow automation
- Proficiency in implementing healthcare data security measures and audit logging for compliance requirements
- Expertise in designing, operating, and governing AI-assisted development tooling and agent-based workflows to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality, security, and compliance

Working Conditions
The incumbent in this position will work in an office environment either remotely or onsite. Most of the duties are performed on computers and digital tools. This position might require sitting for extended periods of time. The working environment is typically dynamic, fast-paced, requiring adaptability and strong communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders. Expect to spend time in meetings, workshops/conferences, and user testing sessions, as well as focused periods of individual design work using digital tools.
Travel requirements - This job may require the incumbent to travel up to 15% of their time based on the business needs.
Purpose of Travel - Domestic travel to customer sites, company offices, or to attend seminars, events, trainings, workshops that the manager deems necessary for leveling up.
Location
This is a full-time, hybrid position based in California or West Virginia. Regular collaboration will be required with team members across California, Chicago, New York, and West Virginia.
