The responsibility of Primary’s Teaching Assistant is to support the Lead Teacher in guiding the students through a gentle play-based program that is developmentally appropriate and grounded in the foundations of a Montessori education. The right person will be able to understand and support the Lead teacher during class, be willing to take direction, care for the aesthetics and safety of the classroom and outside environment; be capable of basic cooking to prepare a nourishing snack and conduct a thorough clean-up of the space after each session.
Key Duties:
● Support the Lead teacher in the realization of the daily curriculum by aiding with transitions, assisting with activities, preparing materials, engaging the children in age-appropriate chores, preparing the classroom/playground and other duties as assigned by the lead teacher
● Support lead Montessori teacher with daily preparation workshop activities
● Be aware of safety of all children during class time and emergency procedures.
● Lead the children to achieve a quiet and mindful classroom atmosphere conducive
● Tidying up the classroom and play areas after the parents and children leave.
● Other duties as requested by the Lead Teacher and the Primary leadership
Ideal Candidates Will:
● Demonstrate a strong ability to keep a close watch on children when playing and to keep students safe
● Commit to working with parents, children, teachers and community members in a
harmonious way
● Express an openness to learning about Montessori Education
Physical Requirements:
● Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
● Sit for extended periods of time, both in chairs and on the floor.
● Safely lift objects and young children up to 35 lbs.
● Squat, stoop and/or bend over.
● Climb multiple flights of stairs.
