Description

The part-time daycare cook prepares nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with posted menus, nutrition regulations, and health department standards. The role requires attention to food safety, organization, and the ability to work with children and staff in a fast-paced environment


  • Meal & Snack Preparation: Plan, prepare, and serve snacks and lunches for children, following approved menus and portion sizes.
  • Food Safety & Compliance: Maintain a clean, safe kitchen; follow personal hygiene and sanitation standards; ensure compliance with state/local health department and CACFP (Child Adult Food Program) requirements.
  • Inventory & Ordering: Perform weekly food and supply inventory; submit purchase lists; order items from approved suppliers within budget.
  • Dietary Needs: Accommodate special dietary requirements and food allergies .
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Keep kitchen equipment, cabinets, and work areas organized and clean .
  • Supporting Duties: Assist with serving meals, cleaning up after meals, and restocking supplies during shifts .
  • Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate records of food distribution and inventory
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Food handler’s certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience cooking in a daycare, preschool, or similar early childhood setting (preferred)
  • Knowledge of nutrition and dietary guidelines for young children
  • Ability to pass background checks
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills


Salary

$10 - $10.5 per hour
