A love child of South Carolina, Ruby migrated to the DC area in the early 1900s. A mother of 6 boys, Ruby’s days were filled with working, taking care of her sons, and preparing meals with a side of ruby- “isms” that her brood would carry on in life. The traditions she started, filled with tough life lessons and a ton of love, are carried on by her children and grandchildren today. More importantly, Ruby's recipes and love for cooking are infused into our southern restaurant and company culture today. At Ruby's, the door is always open and the aromas of comfort food greet you. Who We Are

Ruby's Southern Comfort Kitchen is a soul food restaurant in Bowie, MD — and we're more than a restaurant. We're a family reunion. Named after a real matriarch from South Carolina whose recipes and love for cooking are the foundation of everything we do, Ruby's exists to make every Cousin who walks through our doors feel at home.

Our food is exceptional. Our culture is intentional. And our team — our Crew Members — are the reason Cousins keep coming back.

The Role — Crew Member (Cousin)

As a Crew Member at Ruby's, you are the heartbeat of the Cousin Experience. You're at the counter, you're on the floor, you're the first voice a Cousin hears and the last one they remember. You greet, you serve, you sell with pride, and you send every Cousin home feeling like family.

Whether this is your first ever job or you've been in hospitality for years, the role is the same: show up with energy, care about the people in front of you, and take pride in every single interaction.

What You'll Do

• Welcome every Cousin who walks in — warm, by name if you know it, always with genuine energy
• Take orders accurately and confidently using our Toast POS system (we'll train you on this)
• Talk about the food with passion — know the menu, love the food, share that love with every Cousin
• Keep the counter, dining area, and your station clean and stocked — proactively, not just when someone asks
• Handle payments accurately — cash, card, and online orders
• Assist Cousins with catering pickup orders — confirm the order, hand it off warmly
• Send every Cousin off right: "Thank you for the pull-up, Cousin. Come back home soon."
• Participate in the team huddle at the start of every shift — learn the daily dish, get your assignment, and share a good moment
• Be a team player — help where it's needed, not just where it's assigned

Schedule & Pay

• You will be scheduled between 2-5 days per week {Weekend availability required}
• Must be available at least one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday)
• The schedule varies by week
• This is a tipped position - Crew Member consistently earn above base through tips
• Pay: $11.50 per hour base + tips
• Hours of Operation: Tuesday - Saturday 11am - 8pm. Sunday 11am - 6pm. Closed Monday.
