Positively U, Inc. is a non-profit community-based organization created, led by minority citizen activists and staffed with a majority of individuals living with HIV in Central Florida. Since its inception in 2009, we have served our communities with dignity and respect regardless of age, race, religion, creed, ethnicity, income, disability or gender through leadership and advocacy initiatives. The primary purpose of Positively U, Inc. is to provide meaningful support for persons living with HIV and to prevent the spread of HIV through education, counseling, testing, and case management.

Primary Objective

The RN will provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care and administrative support in a small, integrated primary care clinic. The RN will serve as a vital team member responsible for front and back-office operations, ensuring smooth clinic flow, excellent patient experiences, and efficient support for medical providers. This role also supports coordination with our community-based nonprofit partner, reinforcing the clinic’s commitment to holistic, inclusive, and equitable healthcare for all.

Location: The primary work location is Winter Haven, FL, with occasional travel to Tampa, FL.

Hours: Monday & Tuesday 9am-2pm, Wednesday, 2pm-7pm, Thursday, 10am-4pm, off on Fridays (about 20-25 hours a week)

Essential Functions

Clinical Duties:

  • Perform comprehensive patient intake, including vital signs, medication reconciliation, allergy review, and chief complaints.
  • Prepare exam rooms, ensure cleanliness and restocking between patients.
  • Administer immunizations, therapeutic injections (e.g., GLP-1s, testosterone), and intramuscular, subcutaneous, and IV medications.
  • Perform and document diagnostic screenings such as EKGs, glucose monitoring, urine drug screens, rapid tests (flu, strep, COVID), and pregnancy tests.
  • Assist providers with minor in-office procedures (e.g., pap smears, suture removal).
  • Provide patient education and counseling for chronic disease management (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, asthma).
  • Monitor patients receiving IV hydration therapy and recognize signs of adverse reactions or complications.
  • Support weight loss clients with body measurements, BMI calculations, and patient coaching for behavior/lifestyle change.
  • Prepare documentation for referrals, follow-up care, and prior authorizations.
  • Maintain accurate, timely charting in the EHR system; complete documentation and billing codes per provider direction.
  • Track labs and diagnostic tests, ensure timely review and communication with patients.
  • Ensure clinical compliance with OSHA, CLIA, and infection control protocols.

Administrative (Front Office) Duties:

  • Greet patients warmly and manage check-in and check-out procedures.
  • Schedule appointments, answer phone calls, and manage patient inquiries.
  • Verify insurance and collect copayments and balances.
  • Handle faxing, scanning, and medical record requests.
  • Coordinate referrals and prior authorizations.
  • Support compliance with HIPAA and clinic protocols.

Community & Collaborative Support:

  • Coordinate patient navigation services as needed in collaboration with our partner non-profit.
  • Assist with HIV testing, education, and adherence support services.
  • Occasionally support community outreach initiatives (e.g., health fairs, feeding programs, clothing closet events).
  • Uphold a welcoming, stigma-free environment for all patients, including those impacted by HIV, chronic illness, or social barriers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an integrated team.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and changing environment, and skilled at multi-tasking.
  • Strong and proficient skills in Microsoft PC (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) including electronic medical records systems.
  • Proficient in EHR system, preferably ECW
  • Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ+ and racial/ethnic minority communities and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to these populations.

Education, Experience, & Requirements:

  • Current RN license in the state of Florida (required).
  • CPR/BLS certification (required).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ clinical & clerical experience in primary care, urgent care, or outpatient setting required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience administering IV hydration therapy required .
  • Experience or interest in HIV care, social services, or community health a plus.
  • IV therapy and injection experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to Tampa, FL on an as-needed basis to support clinic and clinic activities.
  • Spanish-English speaking is required.


Salary

$30 - $35 per hour
