Portal Innovations is seeking a Director of Business Development in our new location in Boston. Our Boston lab is in the newly renovated Southline building in the Dorchester area. We are actively searching for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team. As a Director of Business Development at Portal Innovations, you will play a vital role in expanding our ecosystem and identifying and recruiting innovative life sciences companies to join Portal as a member company. By joining our team as a Director of Business Development, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the life science industry in Boston and contribute to the success of groundbreaking life sciences startups.

Description

RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Lead the sales efforts to identify new member companies to join the Portal space. Continuously build a strong pipeline of new members and portfolio companies to join us in our Boston location;  
  • Lead negotiations with potential members and oversee the sales and closing process. Work closely with the Executive Director and Director of Lab Operations to identify space needs and fit. You will need to understand members’ current and future needs to develop a plan for growth and/or renewed membership;  
  • Foster key relationships and partnerships with local life science ecosystem stakeholders (universities, corporations, consultants, VCs, vendors, etc.);  
  • Collaborate with potential sponsors who wish to support Portal’s programming in Boston and to gain a deep understanding of their goals and objectives. Foster meaningful programming partnerships and create value for all parties involved by aligning their interests with our network of innovators; and  
  • Work with other departments (on site and nationally) throughout the member company life cycle to ensure delivery of a world class experience (from space discovery to onboarding and off-boarding, programming, marketing and prospective Portfolio companies) 
  • Establish and promote a robust ecosystem community not only in the Portal Boston but also in the Boston Bio Tech and Innovation ecosystem; 
  • Support strategic programming and partnership deals as our location ramps up. Address the needs and interests of Portal’s member companies and participate in the organization and execution of such programs; 


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE  

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred;  

· Experience in sales and business development. Knowledge of the life sciences industry and selling to the industry a plus (Pharma, biotech, med device);  

· 4+ years of relevant experience in sales, business development, strategic partnerships  

· Proven experience building and managing relationships; and closing deals 

· Strong work ethic, organized and detail oriented; a closer  

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work as part of a team as well as independently;  

· Flexibility and adaptability to grow as the role evolves.
