A Veterinary Assistant supports the Veterinarian(s), Veterinary Nurse(s) and other assistants in all aspects of animal care to ensure animals receive the care and attention needed during an exam or procedure. This typically entails feeding and bathing animals, cleaning cages and kennels to keep animal family members clean, safe, and happy while away from their homes.

A Veterinary Assistant must exhibit excellent communication skills with both clients and team members; have a compassionate and caring nature; exhibit confidence working with and handling various demeanors, sizes and temperaments of our cat and dog patients; be able to work as part of a team, yet be confident working independently; be able to make quick, appropriate decisions when under pressure, and have great attention to detail. Veterinary assistants are expected to maintain respectful relationships with veterinary professionals within our community.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma (preferred)
• Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
• Be enrolled or have graduated from a Veterinary Assistant program (preferred)
