Description

Landscape Construction Operations Manager

Piedmont Carolina | Colfax / Greensboro, North Carolina

$80,000–$100,000 annually + annual performance bonus opportunity

The Opportunity

Piedmont Carolina, a respected 40+ year nursery and landscape company serving North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad, is seeking an experienced Landscape Construction Operations Manager to take ownership of our landscape installation operations.

This is not simply a crew-supervision position. You will own landscape projects from sales handoff through planning, scheduling, procurement, field execution, customer communication, job-cost tracking and final completion while leading and developing our installation teams.

Piedmont Carolina is entering an exciting new chapter of growth and investment. We are modernizing our technology and operating systems while preserving the craftsmanship, relationships, plant knowledge and reputation that have made the company successful since 1982.

What You’ll Own

• Plan and execute landscape construction projects from sales/design handoff through final completion.

• Develop project schedules and coordinate crews, equipment, plant material, construction materials, vendors and subcontractors.

• Lead and develop installation crews and crew leaders, including daily scheduling, field supervision, training, productivity, quality and safety.

• Review landscape plans and scopes; coordinate site preparation, utility locating and other preconstruction requirements.

• Work closely with our nursery team to source and stage Piedmont-grown plant material whenever appropriate.

• Serve as the primary operational contact for customers during installation, proactively managing expectations, questions, changes and project issues.

• Track job costs including labor, plant material, construction materials, equipment, subcontractors and change orders; compare actual performance with project estimates.

• Maintain trucks, trailers, tools and equipment in good operational condition and coordinate repairs as needed.

• Partner with landscape design/sales and landscape maintenance to create a seamless customer experience from design through installation and ongoing maintenance.

• Help develop, document and continuously improve repeatable operating processes for landscape construction.

Technology & Continuous Improvement

Piedmont Carolina is investing in modern systems for project management, scheduling, job costing, communication and field operations. The successful candidate must be comfortable learning and adopting new technology, using it in daily operations, and helping field teams successfully adopt new tools and processes.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of professional landscape construction, installation or closely related experience.

• Demonstrated experience leading crews, foremen or field teams and managing multiple projects.

• Strong plant-material knowledge and understanding of professional landscape installation practices.

• Experience reading and executing landscape plans and working with construction materials and installation techniques.

• Strong scheduling, organization, problem-solving and customer communication skills.

• Comfort working with project budgets, job costs and performance information.

• Experience coordinating vendors and subcontractors.

• Comfort learning new technology and improving operating processes.

• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

• Ability and willingness to work primarily in the field and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Experience with multiple hardscapes applications, drainage, irrigation, low-voltage lighting, water features, grading/site preparation, sod/turf installation and landscape equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• North Carolina Landscape Contractor license.

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in horticulture, landscape management, construction management or a related field; significant relevant experience may substitute for formal education.

Compensation & Benefits

• $80,000–$100,000 annual base salary, depending on experience, qualifications and professional licensure.

• Annual performance bonus opportunity.

• Company truck and fuel.

• 401(k) retirement plan.

• Health insurance.

• Company-paid life insurance.

• Two weeks paid vacation from day one, plus paid company holidays.

• Company-supported professional development, training and licensing.

• Meaningful advancement opportunity as Piedmont Carolina grows.

Candidates holding a North Carolina Landscape Contractor license and possessing significant landscape construction management experience may qualify toward the upper end of the compensation range. Piedmont Carolina is also willing to support the right candidate in obtaining applicable professional licensing.

Why Piedmont Carolina?

Our vertically integrated business combines wholesale nursery production, landscape design, landscape construction and recurring landscape maintenance. That gives our team access to exceptional plant material and the opportunity to build long-term customer relationships rather than simply complete one-off projects.

We are looking for a leader who takes ownership of results, develops people, embraces better systems and takes pride in delivering high-quality work. For the right person, this is an opportunity to help build the next generation of a respected North Carolina company.
