Expression of interest

We’re always looking to connect with skilled musicians who can support Pickup Music’s notation and instructional diagram work across guitar, bass, piano, and drums.

We’re not actively hiring for these roles right now, but Pickup is a growing company, and our notation needs continue to expand. We regularly bring on additional freelance support as new opportunities arise.

We’re particularly interested in people who specialize in music transcription, instructional diagram design, or both.

About the work

Our notation team turns the music and concepts taught in Pickup lessons into accurate, easy-to-follow learning materials.

Depending on your skill set, this could include:

  • Music transcription: Transcribing performances and exercises into accurate TAB, standard notation, chord charts, or drum notation.
  • Instructional diagrams: Creating clear visual aids that help learners understand concepts like chord shapes, scales, intervals, chord tones, piano voicings, rhythmic concepts, and more.
  • Reviewing materials for musical accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Collaborating with Pickup’s internal team to make sure notation and diagrams support the way concepts are taught in each lesson.

Some freelancers may specialize in transcription or diagram design, while others may be comfortable doing both.

You could be a great fit if:

  • You have a college-level music education or equivalent training and professional experience.
  • You have strong knowledge of at least one of our core instruments: guitar, bass, piano, or drums. Experience across multiple instruments is a plus.
  • You have a strong understanding of music theory and notation.
  • You understand how musicians learn and can present musical information clearly and intuitively.
  • You have exceptional attention to detail and can reliably catch small musical or visual errors.
  • You have strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • You’re comfortable receiving feedback and working within established notation and design standards.

Depending on your area of interest

For transcription work, we’re looking for people with professional experience transcribing music and a high level of proficiency with notation software. You should be comfortable accurately transcribing performances by ear and presenting them in a way that makes sense for learners.

For diagram design, we’re looking for people who can translate musical concepts into simple, student-friendly visuals. You should have a strong eye for visual clarity and hierarchy in addition to your musical knowledge. Experience with Figma or other design tools is a big plus.

Submit your interest

If this sounds like a good fit, we’d love to learn more about you. Submit your information below, and we’ll reach out if an opportunity comes up that matches your experience.

Please include:

  • A short introduction covering your musical background and whether you’re interested in transcription, diagram design, or both.
  • Your resume or portfolio.
  • Examples of relevant transcription, notation, or diagram work.
  • The instrument(s) you’re qualified to work with.
  • The notation and/or design software you’re proficient with.

Please note: This is an expression of interest rather than an application for a currently open position. Submitting your information does not guarantee freelance work, but it allows us to get in touch when a suitable opportunity becomes available.
