Payroll & Benefits Administrator

About PeopleOps360

We're a fast-growing outsourced HR firm on a mission to give small businesses access to the kind of HR leadership and support that was once only available to big companies. Our clients don't get a contact center that feels like a black hole. They get a trusted HR partner who feels like a natural extension of their team. We're a group that takes pride in being genuinely expert, consistently responsive, and warm in every interaction because that's what our clients count on and what makes the work worth doing.

Description

The Role

As our Benefits and Payroll Administrator, you'll be the engine that keeps benefits, leave, and payroll running smoothly across a portfolio of small business clients. You'll own the details that matter most to employees — accurate paychecks, well-run benefits, and leave handled with care and compliance — while providing light day-to-day HR support along the way.

This is a role for someone who loves precision, thrives on systems and checklists, and takes real satisfaction in getting things right. You'll work behind the scenes to make sure nothing falls through the cracks, and you'll be the calm, knowledgeable presence employees turn to when they have questions about their pay, benefits, or time off.

What You'll Do

Benefits Administration

  • Administer client benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans
  • Manage enrollments, changes, terminations, and open enrollment cycles
  • Serve as the go-to contact for employee benefits questions
  • Coordinate with carriers and brokers to resolve issues and keep records accurate
  • Oversee COBRA administration and ACA compliance and reporting

Payroll

  • Process accurate, on-time payroll for multiple clients
  • Maintain payroll records, resolve discrepancies, and handle adjustments
  • Ensure compliance with federal, Arizona, and applicable local wage-and-hour rules
  • Manage deductions, garnishments, and payroll tax coordination
  • Support year-end processing including W-2s and related reporting

Leave Administration

  • Administer leave programs including FMLA, ADA accommodations, PTO, and other client-specific policies
  • Track eligibility, approvals, documentation, and return-to-work coordination
  • Ensure leave practices stay compliant and well-documented

Light HR Support

  • Assist with onboarding, offboarding, and HR documentation
  • Maintain accurate employee records across HRIS/payroll systems
  • Support HR team members and clients with day-to-day questions
  • Help keep processes, policies, and files organized and up to date

What We're Looking For

  • 4+ years of combined benefits, payroll, and/or HR administration experience
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll processing and wage-and-hour compliance
  • Familiarity with benefits administration and leave laws (FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ACA)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a genuine love of systems, checklists, and accuracy
  • Clear, warm communication — people enjoy working with you and trust you with sensitive matters
  • Comfort handling confidential employee and financial information with discretion
  • Experience with HRIS/payroll platforms
  • A client-first mindset: responsive, reliable, and calm under a busy workload

Details

  • Location: Remote, but you must reside in the Phoenix metro area
  • In-Person: Attendance required at quarterly team get-togethers in the Phoenix area
  • Schedule: Full-time
  • Type: W-2 employee

Benefits:

  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Professional development assistance

Salary
