Paddle Board Ventures d/b/a Abacus (“Abacus”) is a full-service management company working with professional associations, not-for-profit organizations, and mission driven companies. We offer straight-forward, strategic solutions to organizations’ operational and administrative needs so they can spend time fulfilling their missions, not managing their operations. 

 

Abacus is hiring a Staff Accountant to join our growing team. In this role, you will work with the Operations team to manage the day to day accounting and finance functions of Abacus and our non-profit clients. This hybrid role will be based out of our Richmond, Virginia office, and the successful candidate should be able to come into the office 2-3 days a week. 

 

What you’ll get to do: 

 

The Staff Accountant supports Abacus by: 

 

  • Being responsible for all day to day ownership of accounting records including but not limited to receivables, payables, and the chart of accounts; 
  • Reconciling GL and investigating and resolving discrepancies 
  • Preparing all monthly financial documents and reports as needed; 
  • Processing cash receipts and deposits; disbursements; invoicing; 
  • Overseeing collections; 
  • Coordinating annual audits; and 
  • As the organization grows, developing financial policies and leading the forecasting process 

 

The Staff Accountant supports Abacus' clients by: 

 

  • Ensuring compliance with government regulations where appropriate; 
  • General accounting and reporting; 
  • Maintaining a system of real time accounting for client finances 
  • Being responsible for accounting records including receivables, payables, and the chart of accounts; 
  • Monitoring the annual operations budget; providing budget oversight at the macro and line-item levels; communicating key budget information to relevant constituencies; 
  • Preparing financial documents and reports as needed; 
  • Processing cash receipts and deposits; disbursements; invoicing; 
  • Overseeing collections; 
  • Managing financial record keeping system in accordance with the applicable records retention and destruction policy; and 
  • Coordinating annual audits. 

 

What you’ll bring to Abacus: 

 

  • A bachelor’s or advanced degree in accounting 
  • Four+ years of experience in non-profit accounting 
  • Prior experience in consulting or managing multiple clients simultaneously a plus 
  • Experience with accrual accounting 
  • CPA designation a plus 
  • Prior experience with QuickBooks accounting system a plus 
  • Familiarity with collaborative software tools like Bill.com, Asana, and Box a plus

Abacus offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401k, paid holidays and 4 weeks PTO, profit sharing, and other benefits in a fast paced, collaborative culture. In this role, you can expect to be paid a base salary in the range of $80,000-$95,000.
