Paul Schneider Ceramics Design Studio Assistant - Slipcasting Dallas, TX · Part time

Hands-on craft role in our Dallas studio: learn slipcasting from our Master Ceramist and help create the handmade ceramic lamps behind Paul Schneider's signature lighting.

Description

About the Role

Paul Schneider Ceramics designs and handcrafts custom ceramic lighting in Dallas. Every lamp starts in our casting room, and this role is where that story begins.

As our Slipcasting Assistant, you'll turn liquid slip and plaster molds into the vessels behind Paul Schneider's signature lighting. This is a hands-on, detail-driven craft role for someone who loves working with their hands and takes pride in doing things the same, right way every time. You'll train directly a Master Ceramist, and learn the full slipcasting role from first pour to bisque-ready piece.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare and cast: mix, test, and maintain casting slip to spec; pour and demold pieces with consistent wall thickness
  • Finish production: sand bone-dry pieces to bisque-ready surface; monitor drying room for defects and manage bisque inventory
  • Support the studio: care for and maintain plaster molds; track daily output
  • Keep the studio clean: everyone here, including leadership, shares in keeping the studio clean and safe

Where You Can Grow

Once your slipcasting skills are solid, you'll have the chance to train in trimming and in lamp assembly and wiring. You'll also learn parts of the glazing side of the studio so you can help the team during busy periods. As you become fully qualified and cross-trained, your pay grows with you.

Who You Are

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and proud of consistent, careful work
  • Comfortable working independently and quick to ask for help when you need it
  • A clear communicator who manages time well and stays flexible
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Comfortable with basic computer use, including Google Workspace
  • Ceramics, slipcasting, or wheel experience is a plus, but not required. We will train the right person.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift up to 70 lbs (slip buckets, clay, and mold components)
  • Standing, bending, and squatting for most of the workday
  • Comfortable working at heights of 10 feet or more and using ladders safely
  • Regular exposure to ceramic materials and dust; PPE is provided

Schedule & Pay

  • Part-time, Flexible Hours, with a 30-minute paid lunch
  • Competitive pay per hour based on experience, paid bi-weekly
