Paul Schneider Ceramics Design Studio Assistant - Glazing Dallas, TX · Part time

Hands-on craft role in our Dallas studio: learn glazing, lustre, and kiln firing from our Studio Operations Lead and put the finishing touches on Paul Schneider's handmade ceramic lamps.

Description

About the Role

Paul Schneider Ceramics designs and handcrafts custom ceramic lighting in Dallas. This role writes the finishing chapters of every lamp: glaze, lustre, fire, and pack.

As our Glazing Assistant, you'll turn bisque-fired vessels into finished, market-ready lighting through precise glazing, lustre, and careful firing. This is a detail-driven craft role for someone who takes pride in flawless finishes and consistent quality. You'll train directly under a Studio Operations Lead, and learn the full glazing process from first coat to final pack.

What You'll Do

  • Mix and apply glazes: follow recipes and specific gravity specs, sieve and label batches; prep pieces and apply glaze with full coverage; quality-check and maintain logs
  • Fire and finish: load and unload kiln loads, maintain firing logs, and apply lustre details
  • Pack and ship: run quality checks, photograph, and pack securely
  • Keep the studio clean: everyone here, including leadership, shares in keeping the studio clean and safe

Where You Can Grow

You'll build skill across glazing techniques, kiln firing, and lustre work, and learn parts of the slipcasting side of the studio so you can help the team during busy periods. As you become fully qualified and cross-trained, your pay grows with you.

Who You Are

  • Detail-oriented, with a steady hand and an eye for flawless finishes
  • Organized and careful with records, logs, and labels
  • Comfortable working independently and quick to ask for help when you need it
  • A clear communicator who manages time well and stays flexible
  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree a plus
  • Comfortable with spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets)
  • Ceramics or glazing experience is a plus, but not required. We will train the right person.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift up to 70 lbs
  • Standing, bending, and squatting for most of the workday
  • Comfortable working at heights of 10 feet or more and using ladders safely
  • Comfortable working around kilns and following firing safety procedures
  • Regular exposure to ceramic materials and glaze dust; PPE is provided

Schedule & Pay

  • Part-time, Flexible Hours, with a 30-minute paid lunch
  • Competitive pay per hour based on experience, paid bi-weekly
