Position Overview


Patriots Law Group is seeking a seasoned Employment Law Paralegal to provide direct, high-level support to our growing employment law practice. This role requires a paralegal who can operate with minimal supervision, manage litigation and administrative matters independently, and anticipate attorney needs. This is not an entry-level or training role. The successful candidate will function as a trusted right hand, handling day-to-day case management so attorneys can focus on legal strategy and advocacy.


Key Responsibilities


Pleadings, Filings & Legal Drafting


  • Prepare initial drafts of pleadings and legal documents at the direction of and under the supervision of attorneys, including routine pleadings, motions, affidavits, and interrogatories
  • Draft, cite-check, format, and file pleadings, briefs, and memoranda in compliance with state and federal court rules and administrative agency procedures
  • Generate tables of authorities and tables of contents with expert proficiency
  • File motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures and deadlines


Case & Matter Management


  • Work closely with attorneys on client matters, including organization and management of case documents
  • Create and maintain litigation logs (e.g., document receipt, privilege, and production logs)
  • Maintain case calendars, deadlines, and tickler systems
  • Prepare, organize, store, and retrieve case files, including pleadings, discovery, exhibits, depositions, and evidence


Discovery & Document Support


  • Draft and assist with discovery requests and responses
  • Prepare, organize, and administer supporting materials and exhibits for depositions, hearings, and trials
  • Review, summarize, and analyze case materials, including preparation of timelines, witness outlines, and exhibit lists


Research & Analysis


  • Research and analyze statutes, regulations, legal articles, and judicial decisions
  • Perform legal and factual research and provide written summaries and analysis to attorneys


Client & Stakeholder Interaction


  • Meet with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects
  • Interview clients and witnesses and prepare written summaries of statements
  • At attorney direction, act as a liaison between attorneys and clients through written and oral communications


Trial & Hearing Support


  • Assist attorneys with trial and hearing preparation, including attending proceedings when required
  • Coordinate filings, exhibits, and logistical needs for court appearances and administrative hearings


What We’re Looking For


The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and confident in their paralegal judgment. You should be comfortable stepping into matters, identifying issues before they escalate, and maintaining control over deadlines, filings, and case logistics without constant direction


Leadership & Professional Support


  • Train and support less experienced legal support staff in filing, cite-checking, and document preparation best practices
  • Maintain accurate records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Required Qualifications


  • 5+ years of paralegal experience, with strong preference for labor and employment law
  • Demonstrated experience supporting litigation-heavy practices
  • Proficiency with state and federal court filing systems and procedures
  • Experience with administrative agencies (e.g., EEOC, state labor boards, MSPB) strongly preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple matters independently and prioritize effectively
  • Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail
  • High degree of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment


Preferred Qualifications


  • Paralegal certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Familiarity with Virginia and/or federal employment litigation
  • Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field required; Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred or higher

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and related software.


Physical Requirements: 


·       Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

·       Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. 


Eligible employees may participate in the firm’s 401(k) plan. The firm also offers paid time off. 


Compensation:


$78,000 – $95,000 per year, depending on experience, with flexibility for candidates who bring substantial relevant experience.
