Passageway Financial helps small business owners walk the Path to Profitability — combining bookkeeping, payroll, tax, and advisory to help business owners control cash flow, pay themselves first, and plan proactively for taxes.


We’re expanding in Milwaukee and Minneapolis, and we’re hiring a Market Leader – Managing CPA to build and lead one of these regional offices. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced CPA who is ready to take ownership of a market, build a book of business, and grow a team.


The Opportunity


This is a senior leadership role for a CPA who wants to:

  • Step into a director-level position without needing to buy in as a partner
  • Build and lead a regional office using the firm’s systems, marketing, and team support
  • Provide advisory-driven guidance to business clients, not just tax work


You’ll begin with hands-on work while building the client base, and transition into leadership and review as your book grows.


Key Responsibilities


Leadership & Advisory

  • Serve as the primary advisor for S-Corp, LLC, and small business clients
  • Lead strategic tax planning, profitability guidance, and advisory meetings
  • Review tax returns and financial reporting for accuracy and insight


Accounting Operations Oversight

  • Ensure high-quality delivery of:
  • Bookkeeping (QBO)
  • Payroll (primarily Gusto)
  • Sales tax filings (as applicable)
  • Standardize processes and workflow improvements across the office


Team Building

  • Start by providing hands-on delivery while building a client base
  • Begin hiring and delegating at ~30 recurring clients
  • Train and oversee onshore and offshore support staff


Business Development

  • Convert inbound leads generated by the firm’s marketing
  • Build local referral relationships with bankers, attorneys, and financial advisors
  • Earn a higher revenue bonus for self-generated clients


Qualifications

  • Active CPA license (WI, MN, or reciprocal) required
  • 10–15+ years of public accounting experience, including tax review
  • Strong technical expertise in small business tax (1120S, 1065, 1040 w/ Schedule C/K-1s)
  • Experience overseeing bookkeeping and payroll workflows
  • Proven leadership ability with a desire to build and mentor a team
  • Enjoys advisory work and helping business owners grow
  • Skilled with QuickBooks Online, Gusto, Drake Tax, and cloud systems


Compensation

  • Base Salary: $135,000-$150,000
  • Performance Incentives:
  • Revenue Bonus
  • 5% of new recurring revenue for 12 months on clients sourced through firm marketing
  • 10% of new recurring revenue for 12 months on clients you source directly through networking
  • Profit Bonus: 10% of gross profit from clients under your management
