About Park Hill Church

Park Hill Church is a community committed to practicing the way of Jesus together in San Diego—being with Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and doing what Jesus did. Sunday gatherings are our primary way to worship, learn Scripture, pray for one another, and hear from the Spirit. We believe that following Jesus shapes our hearts, relationships, and community. Our vision is that as we live this way, our lives, our communities, and our city will be transformed, and Jesus' prayer will be realized—that the Father's kingdom would come in San Diego as it is in heaven.

Description

Role Summary

The Youth Coordinator owns the weekly rhythm and relational life of our middle school and high school ministry. This is a hands-on shepherding and building role for someone who genuinely loves teenagers, knows how to gather them, and can disciple them in the way of Jesus. You will lead the weekly youth gathering (Tuesday nights), plan events and retreats, coordinate volunteers and curriculum, and carry a teaching and discipleship presence with our students. This role reports to the Associate Pastor.

Key Responsibilities

Weekly Gatherings & Teaching:

  • Lead the weekly (Tuesday night) youth gathering for middle school and high school students, owning the flow, the room, and the spiritual atmosphere.
  • Carry the primary teaching and discipleship voice for our students, preaching and teaching in age-appropriate ways that root them in Scripture and the historic Christian faith.
  • Cultivate a worship culture among students that is honest, Spirit-led, biblical, and connected to the wider rhythms of Park Hill.
  • Attend Sunday mornings to be pastorally present to the youth in the room and their families.

Events, Retreats & Calendar:

  • Plan and execute youth events throughout the year, including at least one annual retreat, various service projects, and seasonal gatherings.
  • Build an annual youth calendar that integrates with the broader church calendar and seasonal life of Park Hill.
  • Coordinate logistics, communications, and follow-up around events with care and excellence.

Volunteers & Curriculum:

  • Recruit, train, and shepherd a team of adult volunteers who carry alongside you the relational and spiritual work of youth ministry.
  • Select and shape curriculum that aligns with Park Hill's theological convictions and spiritual formation values.
  • Build healthy rhythms of volunteer care, appreciation, and development.

Pastoral & Relational Presence:

  • Be a known, trusted, and consistent presence in the lives of our students—i.e. at school events, games, performances, whenever possible in their everyday moments.
  • Walk with students and families through the joys and hard seasons of adolescence, knowing when to bring others in (parents, pastors, professionals) for appropriate support.
  • Partner with parents as the primary disciplers of their children, equipping and encouraging them in that calling.

Qualifications

  • Deep alignment with Park Hill Church's mission, values, and bridge-building theological posture
  • Demonstrated love for teenagers and proven ability to connect relationally across middle school and high school
  • Experience leading or co-leading a youth ministry, parachurch ministry, or similar context
  • Comfort teaching Scripture in age-appropriate ways and shepherding students spiritually
  • Strong organizational instincts—able to plan a calendar, run an event, and follow through on details
  • A commitment to volunteer development and team-building
  • Background check and required safe-ministry training upon hire
  • Commitment to orthodox Christian faith and to Park Hill's egalitarian theology of leadership

Why You'll Love This Role

  • Shape the spiritual formation of teenagers at a pivotal moment in their lives, in a church that takes formation seriously.
  • Work in a staff culture that values pastoral depth, real friendship, and shared mission.
  • Carry meaningful ownership of a ministry—this is not an errand-running coordinator role; it's a builder's role.
  • Be supported by an Associate Pastor and a co-lead pastoral team who want to see you flourish and develop in ministry.

Compensation & Logistics

Given the small number of youth in our church, this is currently a part-time, hourly position, with potential to become full time should the youth ministry and church resources grow. Specific hours, schedule, and compensation will be discussed with serious candidates and structured around the rhythms of weekly gatherings, events, and pastoral presence.
