About Paloma:
The achievement gap has persisted for the past half century, despite trillions invested in classroom intervention. Research shows that families—not schools—are the biggest determinants of student success. Parents’ love for their children is the single greatest—and most underutilized—natural resource in education.
Paloma is a venture-backed startup that harnesses AI to unleash parents' untapped teaching potential. Our mobile app helps PreK-2 families build a habit of tutoring their kids for 15 minutes a day. Parents deliver rigorous, curriculum-aligned, and joyful instruction daily at home. Over a school year, this unlocks 1,000 hours of one-on-one instruction for every classroom! Check out a short demo here.
In 55 Title I districts across the country—including Houston ISD, LAUSD, and NYCPS—we're getting most rostered parents to successfully tutor their kids. Families use Paloma with remarkable consistency; our monthly user retention outperforms Duolingo and Candy Crush. Last year, this accelerated reading growth by 64%, with even larger gains for multilingual learners. Parents produced the same effect size as high-dosage tutoring, without the usual expense or staffing requirements.
As one district leader put it, “Paloma awakens the sleeping giant of parents as tutors.” We’re on a mission to create a world in which every parent is enabled to help their kids thrive.
About the role:
As a Sales Development Representative at Paloma, you’ll work directly with our CEO & Cofounder to lead his sales operation end to end: managing his calendar and inbox, drafting his emails, and supporting his calls, while proactively hunting down new leads and booking meetings on his behalf. As deals progress, you’ll help get them closed and signed. It’s a unique opportunity to fast-track your sales career by selling alongside a world-class, sales-oriented CEO, with a clear path toward becoming an Account Executive. By working as a right-hand person to Paloma’s CEO & Cofounder, you’ll also have unique access to the inner workings of a fast-growing startup.
- Own the CEO’s sales calendar and inbox - scheduling calls and demos, drafting and sending emails on his behalf, and prepping him (and yourself) before every conversation
- Join his sales calls whenever you can, picking up his talk tracks, objection handling, and closing technique in real time. The best way to learn to sell is to watch someone great do it, then start doing it yourself
- Proactively reach out to district decision-makers (e.g., CAOs, directors of teaching & learning, directors of literacy, directors of expanded learning, directors of tutoring/MTSS, etc.) through calls, email,, LinkedIn, and any other method that proves successful
- Personalize outreach using district-specific context, strategic plan priorities, funding opportunities, and local news, keeping up a high volume of activity without sacrificing quality or irritating prospects
- Continuously test and iterate on subject lines, value props, and outreach sequences to maximize conversion, working with the CEO to sharpen what’s working
- Research accounts and conference attendees to find new hooks and connections, then turn them into booked meetings: including pre-conference outreach and prepping the CEO with a quick briefing (a “facebook”) before each one
- Respond to inbound leads from the website and run discovery calls yourself. You’ll get firsthand experience running sales conversations start to finish
- Keep clean, accurate records in our CRM (Hubspot) so nothing falls through the cracks
- Help get deals across the finish line: prepare proposal templates, chase down signatures, and manage paperwork like district/vendor onboarding, state tax registration, and customer agreements alongside the CEO & CTO: hands-on exposure to closing that builds directly toward an Account Executive role
- Once a deal is signed, keep revenue moving: create invoices, track payments, and follow up on outstanding balances
Who you are:
- You have 2+ years experience in a school/education setting and/or a B2B SaaS startup
- You are extraordinarily driven and persistent. When you have a goal, you’ll move mountains to reach it. Effort is immaterial.
- You have a track record of being persuasive, compelling others to take a desired action (e.g., sales, teacher coaching)
- You’re an excellent written communicator who knows how to craft compelling messages that resonate with busy leaders
- You’re organized and capable of managing high volumes of outreach without losing quality or personalization
- You’re metrics-driven and goal-obsessed. You love tracking your numbers and iterating based on results.
- You are profoundly passionate about Paloma’s mission to help marginalized parents support their children’s learning and success
- You’re genuinely curious about the challenges school districts face and are motivated to solve them
- You want to learn to sell by actually doing it—not just watching from the sidelines
