Parity is seeking a full-time, salaried Foreman who will support our Director of Construction and manage the renovations of Parity’s portfolio of vacant properties. The Foreman will also serve in a teaching capacity, providing hands-on structured carpentry training to Parity Builders apprentices. This role has an anticipated start date of May 2024, and applications will be accepted until the role is filled.
We’re seeking an individual who can put their expertise to work and support a variety of community building initiatives. Our Foreman will provide strategic support to multiple renovation projects at once - serving as a representative at each worksite in dealings with several trade partners.
Reports To: Director of Construction
Works Closely With: CEO, Director of Strategic Initiatives
Parity is a Black woman-led company that innovatively unlocks gridlocked housing markets by leveraging the social capital of existing neighbors and those most harmed by institutional racism. We create upfront demand for affordable homeownership opportunities in neighborhoods experiencing hyper-vacancy by creating pathways for existing residents, families, and other social collectives to purchase homes together block by block as a means of community-building and wealth-building. Parity removes systemic barriers to neighborhood revitalization by using innovative methods to acquire and renovate decades-abandoned properties and sells the homes at deeply affordable price points, which unlocks the supply-demand quandary that keeps neighborhoods depressed.
Parity leads with racial equity, intersectionality, and Development without Displacement at the core of our work to ensure that those who have been historically disinvested of wealth and agency are able to direct the outcomes of and benefit from reinvestment into their communities. Parity was born from the notion that we can rebuild historically redlined communities through the redistribution of power and ownership. We see our impact as broader than just the homes we sell – we are shifting ideology and practice of how Black neighborhoods are valued. We are at a point of expansion in our journey. The Foreman will be an essential hire for the company, helping us scale our construction operations and launch a new workforce development initiative that engages youth to advance their carpentry skill set.
Our Guiding Principles
About The Role
Parity currently owns 30 properties, is closing on 40 properties within the next 12 months, and an additional 50 within 24 months. These properties are all in varying states of distress ranging from totally collapsed shells with just front façade remaining, to partially collapsed, to structurally sound but needing all new systems, framing, and finishes. The properties are traditional Baltimore rowhomes with beautiful architectural history. Our goal is to double the production rate of rowhome renovations each year for the next 5 years.
Simultaneously, Parity is launching its very first iteration of Parity Builders – a construction apprenticeship program specifically designed to provide paid, hands-on experience and extensive training to underserved youth who have an expressed interest in entering the construction industry.
The Foreman will work closely alongside our Director of Construction and Director of Strategic Initiatives to support construction efforts and provide direct, hands-on instruction to Parity Builders trainees.
