VP of Space
VP of SPACE SYSTEMS
DC AREA, NORTHERN VIRGINIA
IN-PERSON FULL-TIME
Overview Energy is building a mission-driven team committed to delivering space-based solar power to the world. We uniquely operate at the intersection of space and clean energy. We are based in the DC area, backed by world-class investors, and are operating in stealth mode.
As Overview Energy’s Vice President of Space Systems you will apply your knowledge, leadership, and creativity to design and build our constellation next-generation satellites at unprecedented affordability and scale. The team you assemble and lead will be responsible for satellite design, production, integration, and testing, from inception to launch. In this leadership position you will hold one of the most critical roles at the company, shaping the people, processes, and systems that we build, and ultimately enabling all of our success.
Responsibilities:
● Attract, assemble, lead and retain one of the world’s most elite space
engineering teams.
● Own design, test, manufacturing, and deployment of an ambitious new space technology to improve life on Earth.
● Manage initial design trades, prototype development, subsystem integration, and finally launch of both our subscale and later full scale satellites.
● Manage team, stakeholders, customers, and suppliers as needed to create mission progress.
● Focus on design for manufacturability, allowing us to build near-GEO satellites at unprecedented affordability and scale.
● Build cross-functional communication systems and methods to allow for effective multidisciplinary collaboration.
● Drive an excellence, data, and results-focused mindset into all systems and teams throughout the organization.
Basic Qualifications:
● You have a formal background in at least one of: aerospace, mechanical, electro-mechanical, mechanisms, optics, or electrical engineering.
● You have experience managing (and ideally recruiting) a team of engineers.
● You’re an end-to-end space system development generalist, having been involved at all stages of spacecraft development. You’re hands-on, as comfortable turning a screwdriver as you are doing analysis and modeling a system in CAD, but you can also delegate to your team. You lead by example.
● You’ve dealt with component vendors, launch providers, and everything in between.
● You know how to estimate staffing needs and development timelines (while acknowledging that engineering is notoriously hard to predict).
● You’re experienced making buy/build trade-off decisions for satellite systems.
● You’re a critical thinker and are detail oriented, able to manage a team and own a system while not letting things slip through the cracks.
● Highly self-motivated with strong organizational and written/oral
communication skills.
Ideal Qualifications:
● You’ve previously led the development of a spacecraft end-to-end.
● You have hands-on experience integrating lower level subsystems into a final craft.
● You’ve worked on (or lead) development of a satellite constellation.
● You’ve worked on both large and small spacecraft.
● Experience with both LEO and GEO systems.
Benefits:
The health and safety of our employees and their families comes first. In addition to competitive salary and equity, we offer competitive Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, and Life coverage, Paid Time Off, Parental Leave, and employer 401K matching. The Company reserves the right to modify or change these benefits at any time.
ITAR Requirements:
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. Overview Energy is an Equal Opportunity Employer; employment with Overview Energy is governed on the basis of merit, competence, and qualifications, and will not be influenced in any manner by race, color, religion, gender, national origin/ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, mental or physical disability, or any other legally protected status.
Studies show that often women and members of underrepresented groups apply for jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. Overview Energy encourages everyone who thinks they could do the job, even if they don’t meet all of our idealized qualifications, to apply.
