General summary of duties: The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting healthcare providers and ensuring the smooth operation of medical facilities. Position reports to: Office Manager
Job qualifications:
Education/training: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of medical assistant training program preferred. Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is desirable.
Experience:
· One Year of medical office experience in a physician’s office or equivalent combination of training and experience
· Basic knowledge of medical terminology
· Proficiency in using electronic health record systems.
· Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
· CPR certification may be required.
· Working knowledge of secretarial procedures, organizational policies and procedures, systems and office management practices
Skills:
· Knowledge of physician business office procedures
· Skill in identifying and resolving problems.
· Ability to prepare records in accordance with instructions.
· Ability to exercise a degree of initiative and judgment.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public.
· Ability to read, write and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
· Knowledge of basic arithmetic
· Proficiency in the operation of a computer and other office equipment
Physical abilities:
· Sit for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, stoop and stretch.
· Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.
· Have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; specific vision requirements: the ability to focus.
· Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

Duties and responsibilities:
· Escorts patients to exam rooms and prepare them for examination.
· Obtain and record patient vitals, medical history, and chief complaints.
· Assist providers during examinations and procedures.
· Administers medications or injections under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider.
· Update and maintain electronic health records accurately.
· Perform basic laboratory tests, such as urinalysis.
· Ensure that medical equipment is in good working order.
· Sterilize and prepare medical instruments.
· Manage inventory of medical supplies.
· Provide patients with information about medications, procedures, and general healthcare.
· Instruct patients on self-care and preventive measures.
· Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality; and treats staff, physicians, patients and visitors with respect.
· Complete necessary documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
· Performs other related work as required. Assist various departments as needed.
Work environment:
The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment. The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, physicians, clients, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public.
