Optigon is an MIT spinout company focused on building smarter measurements tools for the clean energy industry. Our mission is to increase the speed at which clean energy materials are discovered, optimized, and deployed in the areas of energy harvesting and storage. Job Description:

Founding Engineer

A Strong Candidate Would Bring:

Technical Skills

• A Ph.D. in physics, optics, physical chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, electrical engineering or a M.S./M.Eng. in a similar field with at least 3 years of relevant industry experience

Previous Experience:

• Using X-ray based measurements including X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and/or synchrotron based techniques
• Designing and building X-ray instrumentation such as selecting X-ray sources and detectors for specific applications and/or experience in building scientific equipment such as optical and optoelectronic measurements tools for solid-state materials (photovoltaics, batteries, fuel cells, etc)
• Controlling hardware (light sources, detectors, triggering, motors, etc)
• Moderate to extensive experience in software or firmware development (python, C/C++, Java, Git, etc)

Leadership Skills

• Experience in structuring the design, prototyping, demonstration, and construction of innovative products aligned with Optigon's mission
• Excellent communication skills, interest to network and interface with potential customers, synthesize feedback into actionable items and instrument modifications
• Building a team to execute diverse problems including delegation of tasks to different team members
• Emotional intelligence - respectful and constructive feedback for all team members
• Ability to effectively mentor new hires and interns

Nice to Have:

• Knowledge about semiconductor physics, photovoltaics, LED's, and understanding of analytical models to describe collected data
• Previous experience in a startup or working on small teams that are dynamic and move fast
• Experience working with databases such as PostgreSQL, mySQL, mongoDB
• Experience with FCC, CE, and UL certification

Other Details:

• Job type: Full-time
• Compensation: Competitive package including salary, equity, benefits, paid time off
• Expected Pay Range: $100,000-$140,000 per year
• Health Benefits: 80% coverage of health insurance
• Ideal Start Date: September to December 2024
• Location: Somerville, MA (Greentown Labs)
