The Production Manager is the senior technical leader of Oasis Arts, responsible for overseeing all technical and production operations across the organization's performance spaces and programming. This includes direct oversight of all technical and production design staff and contractors (including lighting, sound, stage management, scenic design, and AV) and ensuring that every production is realized safely, efficiently, and to the highest artistic standard.

This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both deep technical expertise and the ability to manage people, projects, and budgets across a high-volume, fast-paced performance environment. The Production Manager works in close collaboration with the Artistic Director, Executive Director, Programs Manager, Booking Manager, and Facilities Manager to align technical capacity with Oasis Arts' artistic ambitions.

Key Responsibilities

Production Management

  • Oversee the production process from pre-production through load-out for all shows and events, ensuring projects are on schedule, on budget, and meeting artistic goals
  • Develop and manage production schedules, tech calendars, crew calls, and load-in/load-out plans in coordination with the Booking Manager and Artistic team
  • Serve as primary point of contact with all artists on Production and Technical needs, collaborating with the Booking Manager during contract negotiations and through production execution.
  • Prepare and manage production budgets, tracking actuals and flagging variances in coordination with the Finance/HR Manager
  • Coordinate with the Facilities Manager on all production-related building needs, including power, rigging, storage, and access
  • Maintain accurate records of production costs, crew hours, equipment usage, and vendor contracts

Technical Leadership & Oversight

  • Serve as the primary technical authority for all Oasis Arts productions, events, and venue operations
  • Oversee and coordinate all technical departments - including lighting, sound, stage management, scenic construction, and projections - across all programming formats
  • Supervise, schedule, and evaluate all full-time, part-time, and contracted technical and production design staff
  • Establish and maintain technical standards, workflows, and best practices across the organization
  • Lead technical advance work with incoming artists, touring companies, and co-production partners, reviewing and responding to riders and technical requirements

Equipment & Infrastructure

  • Maintain, inventory, and ensure the safe operation of all production equipment, including lighting rigs, sound systems, follow spots, projectors, and staging
  • Develop and oversee a regular maintenance schedule for all technical equipment and infrastructure
  • Manage relationships with equipment vendors, rental companies, and technical service providers
  • Evaluate and recommend capital investments in technical infrastructure as the organization grows

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all technical operations comply with OSHA standards, Cal/OSHA regulations, and applicable entertainment industry safety protocols
  • Conduct and document safety briefings, hazard assessments, and incident reports
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of entertainment rigging, electrical, and fire safety standards

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of technical direction, production management, or equivalent experience in a professional performance venue or touring environment
  • Deep working knowledge of lighting systems (EOS or comparable console), live sound, stage management, and scenic construction
  • Proven experience supervising and scheduling technical crews across multiple concurrent productions
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment
  • Commitment to a safe, inclusive, and collaborative production culture

Preferred

  • Experience in queer arts, nightlife venues, drag performance, or non-traditional theatrical formats
  • Familiarity with video projection, LED, or immersive production technologies
  • Experience working in or with LGBTQ+, BIPOC, or community-centered organizations
