Position Summary
The Bar & Night Manager plays a central role in what makes Oasis exceptional: ensuring every person who walks through our doors - whether they're a first-time guest or a longtime regular - feels welcome, safe, and part of something special.
As Bar Manager, this role owns the full lifecycle of bar operations — from staffing, training, and scheduling to inventory, ordering, cost control, and compliance. As Night Manager, this role serves as the on-site operational lead during all performances and events, coordinating across technical production and front of house to ensure every show runs smoothly, safely, and professionally.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment, brings deep hospitality and bar management experience, and has a genuine affinity for queer arts, nightlife, and performance culture. This role works in close daily partnership with the Production Manager, Front of House Manager, Booking Manager, and Facilities Manager to align all venue operations around an exceptional guest and artist experience.
Key Responsibilities
Bar Operations & Management
- Own all aspects of bar operations, including staffing, training, scheduling, performance management, and day-to-day supervision of bartenders, barbacks, and bar support staff
- Manage all bar ordering, inventory, and purchasing, including spirits, beer, wine, non-alcoholic beverages, supplies, and smallwares, maintaining appropriate par levels and minimizing waste
- Develop and maintain drink menus, pricing, and seasonal offerings in collaboration with ownership, ensuring quality, consistency, and margin targets are met
- Monitor and manage bar cost of goods, labor costs, and revenue, preparing regular reports for ownership and identifying opportunities to improve profitability
- Ensure all bar operations comply with California ABC regulations, health and safety codes, and responsible beverage service requirements; maintain all required licenses and certifications
- Establish and enforce bar policies and procedures, including cash handling, tip reporting, comp and staff drink policies, and opening/closing protocols
- Manage relationships with beverage vendors, negotiate pricing, and ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment
- Maintain the bar in excellent physical condition, coordinating with the Facilities Manager on equipment maintenance, repairs, and capital needs
Night Management & Event Operations
- Serve as the primary on-site operational lead during all performances, events, and venue activations — from load-in through final close of building
- Coordinate across all departments operating within the venue — including technical production, front of house, box office, security, and coat check — to ensure seamless show execution and a consistently high standard of guest and artist experience
- Serve as the primary point of escalation for all operational issues, emergencies, or incidents during events, exercising sound judgment and calm leadership under pressure
- Conduct pre-show walkthroughs and briefings with all operational teams, ensuring everyone is prepared, informed, and aligned before doors open
- Monitor venue capacity, crowd management, and patron behavior throughout events, working closely with security to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all guests
- Ensure all artists, performers, and production teams are properly supported — including hospitality, access, and any show-specific needs — coordinating with the Production Manager and Booking Manager as needed
- Oversee proper building close-down procedures at the end of each event, including securing all spaces, verifying all staff departures, coordinating with technical and facilities teams, and completing required documentation
- Document incidents, near-misses, and operational feedback after each event, sharing reports with ownership and relevant department leads
Team Leadership & Culture
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop a high-performing bar team that reflects Oasis' values of inclusivity, professionalism, and community care
- Foster a positive, equitable, and high-energy team culture in which bar staff feel supported, valued, and proud of the work they do
- Conduct regular performance reviews, provide ongoing coaching and feedback, and address performance issues promptly and fairly
- Model the hospitality standards, professionalism, and community-centered values that define the Oasis guest experience
- Participate in regular cross-departmental operational meetings, contributing bar and night management perspective to venue-wide planning
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure full compliance with California ABC laws, including responsible service of alcohol, minor policies, and required staff certifications
- Maintain working knowledge of San Francisco entertainment venue regulations, including occupancy limits, noise ordinances, and permit requirements
- Ensure all cash handling, tip distribution, and financial reporting procedures are followed accurately and consistently
- Work with ownership and relevant department leads to maintain and update emergency response protocols, incident reporting procedures, and safety plans
