Position: Senior Manager, Business Development 


The Manager, Business Development is a results-oriented individual that possesses a proven track record in identifying and closing new partnerships and relationships in key targeted categories that contribute to meeting or exceeding both individual and organizational partnerships and premium ticketing sales goals. 

The ideal candidate should be curious by nature, energetic, possess an outgoing personality, and enjoy working in a collaborative environment. 


Duties and Responsibilities: 


● Generate new partnerships and premium ticket business revenue through local, national and international brands by utilizing the creative integration of partnership assets and premium ticket products within the Oakland Roots partnerships and ticketing portfolio and the organization’s purpose-driven model that contributes to the achievement of the department revenue goals determined by CRO, Oakland Roots SC. 

● Develop and maintain a pipeline of local, national, and international client prospects through aggressive cold calling, research, and referrals to secure meetings with key decision-makers to achieve monthly, quarterly annual sales goals. 

● Maintain information and research on target-specific team partnership and premium seating categories at all times. 

● Analyze client marketing needs and budgets through the use of introductory needs analysis techniques and a consultative sales strategy. 

● Maximize category yield in all major categories through the development and presentation of fully integrated partnerships representing unique value propositions that use Root’s current sponsorship assets to overcome client objections and consistently close deals.

● Work closely with the CRO and Manager, Partnership Marketing to identify and develop measurable new assets when needed that meet the client’s marketing objectives. 

● Delivers effective presentations which satisfy prospects’ needs through various combinations of Roots marketing assets including purpose, digital content, digital and linear media, bold activation spaces, custom retail initiatives, branding, promotions, community service, and premium giveaways. 

● Ensure that United Soccer League and team regulations are properly adhered Provide CRO with weekly sales and pipeline reports. 

● Work game days and special events to entertain and nurture relationships with existing partners and prospects. 

● React to and overcome problems or objections; execute the contract and coordinate billing process with Manager, Partnership Marketing and Roots accounting department. 

● Maintain a positive and team-focused attitude for success and to problem solve as needed. 

● Achieve high productivity and activity levels for new business development and engagement on an ongoing basis. 

● Perform other key duties as assigned by CRO. 


Competencies and Skills Required: 

○ Bachelor’s Degree, with a concentration in Marketing or Sports Management preferred. 

○ Minimum of three (3) years of sponsorship sales and/or ticket sales experience within the sports industry. 

○ Significant relationships/contacts with clients and agencies. Local Bay area-based relationships would be helpful. 

○ Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced client-service environment. 

○ Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. 

○ Demonstrated ability to manage and cultivate mutually beneficial 

business relationships. 

○ Highest level of integrity and ethics, both professional and 

personal. Minimal Travel in and around the Bay area. 

○ A team player, with an ability to operate as part of an 

integrated multi-functional management team 

○ Strong use of technology and various software applications 

including G-Suite (docs, sheets, slides) and other potentially 

advantageous soccer software applications 

○ Spanish speaking preferred, Multilingual desired 

○ Valid Driver’s License 

○ Must undergo a Criminal Record Check

Compensation and Benefits: 


○ Base compensation range is $65,000 - $70,000 

*Commission structure eligibility based on performance of partnerships and premium ticketing products with a potential of up to $25,000.
