Vascular Intraoperative RN – PRN
Location: Takoma Park, MD
Employment Type: PRN / Per Diem
Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Frequency: Approximately 2–3 shifts per week
Work Setting: Vascular Surgery / Cath Lab
Pay Rate:$53–$67/hour (Flexible based on experience and qualifications)
About the Opportunity
NurseAmerica is seeking an experienced Vascular Intraoperative Registered Nurse (RN) for a PRN opportunity in Takoma Park, Maryland. The ideal candidate will have prior vascular nursing experience and be comfortable supporting complex vascular procedures in an intraoperative or vascular cath lab environment.
This role is ideal for an RN who can work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the broader surgical team while maintaining strict sterile technique and providing high-quality patient care throughout vascular procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care during vascular and endovascular procedures.
- Function as a circulating and/or scrub nurse based on experience and facility needs.
- Review patient history, allergies, medications, laboratory results, imaging, and planned vascular procedures.
- Prepare the patient, equipment, and operating environment for vascular procedures.
- Maintain a sterile field and follow strict infection-control and surgical safety protocols.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of vascular anatomy and physiology.
- Handle and identify specialized vascular instruments, grafts, stents, wires, catheters, and other vascular devices.
- Anticipate the surgeon's needs and provide timely assistance throughout procedures.
- Perform surgical counts and verify implants, grafts, and other devices.
- Assist with appropriate patient positioning and intraoperative safety measures.
- Monitor the patient's condition and promptly communicate changes to the surgical and anesthesia teams.
- Respond quickly and appropriately to intraoperative emergencies, including hemorrhage and acute vascular complications.
- Assist with patient transfer to PACU/ICU and provide accurate intraoperative handoff information.
- Maintain accurate documentation and comply with applicable clinical and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
- Vascular nursing experience is required.
- Previous experience in vascular surgery, intraoperative/OR nursing, and/or vascular cath lab procedures strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of vascular anatomy, physiology, and vascular procedures.
- Proficiency with surgical/OR nursing practices and sterile technique.
- Familiarity with vascular instruments, grafts, stents, wires, catheters, and related devices.
- Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and respond effectively in high-acuity situations.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and attention to detail.
- BLS certification required; additional certifications may be required based on facility requirements.
