Medical Assistant (MA) – Oncology

Position Overview
NurseAmerica is seeking compassionate and dependable Medical Assistants (MA) to join a leading outpatient Oncology/Hematology practice with multiple locations across Maryland. We are hiring for opportunities across various clinics, with the potential to transition into a permanent position.
As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting physicians and clinical staff while providing exceptional care to oncology patients. This position is ideal for candidates who enjoy working in a fast-paced outpatient setting and are passionate about delivering quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Escort patients to and from exam and treatment rooms.
- Record patient information, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication updates.
- Prepare patients for physician examinations and clinical procedures.
- Assist physicians and clinical staff during exams and treatments.
- Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as delegated by the physician or Registered Nurse.
- Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms.
- Obtain and organize patient medical records before appointments.
- Answer and triage patient phone calls, directing questions to the appropriate clinical staff.
- Process prescription refill requests and perform patient follow-up calls as directed.
- Assist with appointment scheduling, patient flow, and coordination of care.
- Perform administrative duties including chart preparation, filing, faxing, scanning, and other clerical support.
- Follow OSHA, infection control, and clinic safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Provide compassionate and professional service to patients and their families.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent certification preferred.
- Current BLS certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire).
- 0-3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative outpatient clinical environment.
Work Environment
- Outpatient Oncology/Hematology Clinic.
- Opportunity to work at multiple Maryland locations based on staffing needs.
- Frequent interaction with physicians, nurses, and oncology patients.
- Exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous medications, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common to an oncology clinic.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 40 pounds throughout the workday.
