Description

Northwest Yeshiva High School (NYHS), a coeducational, accredited Jewish high school serving grades 9–12, seeks a part-time High School Art Teacher. Located on Mercer Island, NYHS offers a rigorous dual curriculum in a close-knit, mission-driven community where students are known, challenged, and supported.


Position Overview

The Part-Time (.25 FTE) High School Art Teacher delivers engaging, student-centered visual arts instruction that encourages creativity, skill development, and artistic expression. Teaching small classes, the Art Teacher supports students in exploring a variety of media and techniques while developing visual literacy and critical reflection. The ideal candidate is a practicing artist and educator who fosters a supportive studio environment and contributes positively to a collaborative school culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach high school visual arts courses (grades 9–12), which may include drawing, painting, mixed media, and introductory design
  • Design and implement engaging, standards-aligned lessons that emphasize artistic technique, creative process, and self-expression
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying artistic experience and skill levels
  • Create and maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive studio classroom environment
  • Assess student work using clear criteria and provide constructive, timely feedback
  • Integrate art history, critique, and reflection into studio practice, as appropriate
  • Manage art supplies, materials, and equipment responsibly
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress
  • Collaborate with faculty to support interdisciplinary learning and school-wide initiatives
  • Support student exhibitions, displays, and community art projects as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Fine Arts, Art Education, or a related field (required)
  • Secondary teaching experience preferred
  • Teaching certification preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a range of visual art media and techniques
  • Experience differentiating instruction for diverse learners
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and instructional technology
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills
  • Commitment to student-centered learning and professional growth

Compensation

  • $10,000 to $15,000 a year based on experience and FTE



Safety-Sensitive Positions and Pre-Employment Requirements

All positions at Northwest Yeshiva High School are designated as safety-sensitive due to regular interaction with students and responsibility for maintaining a safe school environment. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check and any other screening required by law. Certain positions may also require pre-employment drug screening in accordance with applicable federal, state, and Washington State laws and regulations. Failure to satisfactorily complete required screenings may result in withdrawal of an employment offer or termination of employment.
