Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work directly with adults with intellectual disabilities to assist them within the community.


Job Overview:

Nexus Community Services is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team in Chester, VA. As a DSP, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of adults with intellectual disabilities by providing direct support and assistance within the community. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $17 to $18 per hour.


- Provide direct support and assistance to adults with intellectual disabilities, ensuring their safety, well-being, and overall quality of life.

- Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, medication administration, and household tasks.

- Support clients in developing and maintaining independent living skills, such as budgeting, shopping, and accessing community resources.

- Foster social engagement by organizing and participating in recreational activities, outings, and community events.

- Document and maintain accurate records of client progress, incidents, and any changes in behavior or health.

- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized support plans for clients.

- Advocate for clients' rights, needs, and preferences, ensuring their inclusion and participation in decision-making processes.


- High school diploma or GED equivalent.

- Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities is preferred but not required.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

- Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.

- Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to support and empower individuals with disabilities.

- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
