Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & Training
- Supervise, train, and mentor ambassador staff to ensure high performance in cleaning, maintenance, and hospitality services.
- Oversee the training program for all staff, developing customized modules to meet district-specific needs.
- Conduct ongoing assessments to identify areas for staff development and implement strategies for improvement.
- Foster a positive and team-oriented work culture that encourages accountability and excellence.
- Ensure ambassadors provide outstanding customer service in all interactions with businesses, visitors, and residents.
2. Scheduling & Coordination
- Develop staff schedules alongside the Operations Manager to ensure adequate coverage and efficient workflow.
- Coordinate shifts, address staffing concerns, and adjust schedules as needed to meet district demands.
- Assist in triaging incoming service requests and dispatching ambassadors accordingly.
3. Operations Management
- Oversee daily ambassador activities, including hospitality services, downtown business support, and district maintenance initiatives.
- Ensure ambassadors are following proper procedures, adhering to safety protocols, and meeting performance expectations.
- Provide hands-on support as needed, including filling in for absent team members.
4. Community Engagement & Public Relations
- Act as a point of contact for businesses, residents, and visitors, offering assistance and fostering positive relationships.
- Represent Nexstreet and the Asheville Downtown Improvement District in a professional and positive manner.
- Gain familiarity with local government policies, event regulations, and environmental standards to better support community needs.
- Identify key individuals and organizations in the neighborhood to explore potential partnerships.
5. Reporting & Documentation
- Utilize Jia software to maintain accurate records of ambassador activities, incidents, and community interactions.
- Track key performance indicators such as cleanliness metrics, engagement statistics, and service requests.
- Provide regular reports and insights to the Operations Manager and Downtown Association leadership.
6. Conflict Resolution & Public Safety
- Address concerns from ambassadors or the public in a professional and solution-focused manner.
- Act as the first point of escalation for incidents requiring supervisory intervention.
- Ensure ambassadors handle public interactions with professionalism, empathy, and de-escalation techniques.
7. Cleaning & Maintenance Oversight
- Ensure ambassadors execute daily cleaning tasks, including sidewalk sweeping, litter collection, and trash receptacle servicing.
- Monitor graffiti removal efforts, ensuring prompt and effective abatement.
- Oversee biohazard cleanup response, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Utilize Jia software for quality control, training opportunities, and transparency in service delivery.
8. Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with basic landscaping, including tree bed maintenance, weeding, and watering.
- Support public restroom monitoring, ensuring restocking and cleanliness.
- Contribute to special projects that enhance downtown beautification and safety.
Dress Code
- Must wear the designated uniform at all times while on duty.
- Uniforms should be kept clean and presentable to maintain a professional appearance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in public service, customer service, or hospitality.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to motivate and support a diverse team.
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and produce detailed reports using digital platforms.
- Familiarity with Asheville’s local culture, businesses, and community organizations is a plus.
Skills & Physical Requirements
- Positive attitude with the ability to approach assignments thoroughly.
- Self-motivated, capable of prioritizing and managing multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and endure prolonged periods of walking and standing.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Proficiency with computers and smartphones, including familiarity with reporting software.
- Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $22 - $25 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
