The Contemporary Music Director (MD) supports the Worship Pastor by providing musical leadership to the worship band. This role is responsible for arranging, directing, and leading band rehearsals, mentoring volunteer musicians, and helping craft a cohesive, Spirit-led worship experience. The MD plays a key role in real-time music direction during services and ensures a high level of musical excellence and engagement.
Description
- Serve as the lead musical arranger and director for the contemporary band.
- Lead the band in rehearsals and live services, giving cues, managing transitions, and shaping the overall sound.
- Play a lead instrument (preferably keys, electric guitar, or acoustic guitar) and lead from that position as needed.
- Arrange and prepare chord charts, loops, stems, and click tracks.
- Provide real-time MD cues via talkback mic or visual signals during live services.
- Assist with auditions, onboarding, and training of new band members.
- Lead weekly rehearsals and prepare all band members for Sunday services.
- Coach and mentor volunteer musicians to grow in skill, confidence, and spiritualmaturity.
- Collaborate with the Worship Pastor in song selection, set planning, and worship flow.
- Input and manage music and band schedules in Planning Center Online.
- Coordinate with tech teams (audio, lighting, and media) to ensure smooth service execution.
- Maintain a library of music resources including charts, stems, and rehearsal tracks.
- Communicate weekly with team members regarding expectations, setlists, and service notes.
- Assist with stage setup and teardown when needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Worship Pastor.
