Nettle & Ash LLC Revenue Cycle & Accounts Receivable Specialist Remote · Contractor Company website

We’re looking for an experienced behavioral health billing and AR specialist who knows how to get unpaid claims resolved, and isn’t afraid to push back when an insurance company isn’t paying something it should. This person will primarily work aged insurance accounts receivable, including denials, appeals, corrected claims, payer follow-up, authorization issues, and other barriers to payment. We’re looking for someone independent, organized, persistent, and curious enough to figure out why something happened rather than simply working the same problem over and over. The position will begin as a 90-day temporary role, with the possibility of becoming a permanent position for the right person.

Description

We’re Hiring: Revenue Cycle & Accounts Receivable Specialist

90-day temporary position with the potential to become permanent

Hey there! I am looking for a very particular kind of billing person.

We need someone with mental/behavioral health billing experience who is really, really good at figuring out why something isn’t getting paid—and then actually following it through until it gets resolved.

Nettle & Ash is a neurodiversity-affirming behavioral health practice serving autistic and neurodivergent kids, teens, and adults across Rhode Island and Massachusetts. We’ve grown quite a bit over the last few years, and right now we’re putting a lot of energy into making sure our internal systems grow up with us.

The immediate need is pretty straightforward: we have older insurance AR that needs to be worked. You’ll have a defined portion of it and your job will be to figure out what happened, what needs to happen next, and get as much of it resolved as possible.

That will mean digging into unpaid claims, denials and rejections, corrected claims, appeals, payer portals, EOBs/ERAs, authorization issues, timely filing, calling insurance companies when necessary, and keeping really good notes about what has been done and what still needs to happen.

The biggest thing I’m looking for is someone who can think beyond the task in front of them.

If you see the same denial five times, I don’t want you to just fix it five times. I want you to ask why the hell we keep getting it.

And, frankly, I’m looking for someone with a healthy amount of skepticism when it comes to insurance companies. A denial is not always the end of the conversation. I want someone who knows the rules, knows when something should be paid, and is willing to keep pushing, escalating, appealing, calling back, asking for supervisors, and generally being professionally relentless when the situation calls for it. You can be kind to the person on the other end of the phone while still being an absolute pain in the ass to the system.

I need someone who notices patterns, asks questions, follows up, communicates when something looks weird, and knows the difference between actually resolving something and just documenting that they called the insurance company.

Previous mental health/behavioral health billing and AR experience is required. ABA billing experience is a HUGE plus, as is experience with Rhode Island and Massachusetts insurance plans.

You absolutely do not have to know everything. I care much more that when you don’t know something, you know how to investigate it and aren’t afraid to ask questions or say, “Something about this doesn’t make sense.”

This will start as a 90-day temporary position at $25–$30/hour, depending on experience. Hours can vary depending on workload and your availability, and I’m not setting an arbitrary weekly cap.

If you’re great at this, you like us, and we like you, I would love for this to turn into a permanent position.

Our permanent positions work a little differently. Full-time at Nettle & Ash is 32 hours/week and includes six weeks of paid time off and employer-paid healthcare, so permanent salaried compensation is structured differently than the temporary hourly rate.

You’ll probably be a good fit here if you’re organized, independent, curious, slightly relentless, and maybe get an unreasonable amount of satisfaction from finally getting an insurance company to pay a claim they’ve been avoiding for four months.

You should keep good notes. You should follow up when you say you will. You should tell us when you screw something up instead of hoping nobody notices. And if you keep running into the same problem, I really, really want you to tell us, because we’d rather fix the system than keep asking people to work around something that is broken.

We care a lot about autonomy, accountability, curiosity, communication, and treating people like humans. We’re also in the middle of rebuilding some of our internal systems, so this is actually a pretty cool time to come in if you’re the kind of person who likes making things work better.

If this sounds like your particular flavor of brain, send your cover letter and resume to [email protected] and tell us a little about your experience with behavioral/mental health billing and AR.
