Nauburn Coffee is looking for a dependable, friendly crew member who wants consistent part-time hours and enjoys staying busy. We’re especially looking for someone with weekday morning and daytime availability, plus some Saturdays. Coffee experience is great, but reliability, work ethic, good judgment, and genuine customer service matter more. We’ll teach the right person the rest.
Nauburn Coffee is a small-town coffee shop in New Auburn, Wisconsin. We care about making good drinks, treating people well, keeping a clean and welcoming shop, and being a positive part of our community.
We are a small crew, which means every person matters. During a shift, you may make espresso drinks, take an order, prepare food, wash dishes, restock cups, wipe tables, take out garbage, answer a customer's question, and jump back on bar when a rush comes through.
We are also working toward adding drive-through service, so this role will eventually include helping us serve both in-shop and drive-through customers efficiently and accurately.
We are looking for someone who enjoys that kind of environment.
We are hiring a part-time Barista / Coffee Shop Team Member.
We are especially interested in applicants looking for approximately 20 to 30 hours per week, although hours may vary based on availability, shop needs, experience, and performance.
Our strongest current need is for someone who can consistently work weekday mornings and daytime hours, with some Saturday availability.
Nauburn Coffee is currently open:
- Monday through Friday: 6 AM to 4 PM
- Saturday: 6 AM to 2 PM
- Sunday: Closed
Applicants who can reliably work earlier shifts and weekday daytime hours will receive priority consideration.
You will learn to consistently prepare our full drink menu, including:
- Espresso drinks
- Lattes
- Cappuccinos
- Americanos
- Mochas
- Chai
- Teas
- Cold brew
- Smoothies
- Seasonal and specialty drinks
- Regular brewed coffee
- Customized customer orders
You do not need to arrive knowing how to make every drink.
We can teach coffee skills.
What we need from you is the willingness to learn our recipes, follow standards, practice until you are comfortable, and make drinks consistently.
Nauburn is a community coffee shop, so customer service is a major part of the job.
You will:
- Greet customers
- Take orders accurately
- Operate the POS system
- Handle payments
- Answer menu questions
- Make recommendations
- Learn regular customers and their usual orders
- Help first-time customers feel comfortable
- Handle reasonable special requests
- Correct mistakes when they happen
- Respond calmly when a customer is frustrated
- Communicate honestly when orders are taking longer than expected
We want service to feel genuine.
You do not need to put on a fake customer-service personality. You do need to be friendly, respectful, attentive, and willing to talk to people.
Depending on the shift, you may:
- Serve pastries and baked goods
- Prepare sandwiches and other food
- Package food to go
- Restock food items
- Follow food-safety procedures
- Monitor freshness and quality
- Keep food-preparation areas clean
Food-service experience is helpful, but not required.
Cleaning is part of the job for everyone.
That includes:
- Washing dishes
- Cleaning counters
- Wiping tables
- Sweeping
- Mopping
- Cleaning equipment
- Cleaning spills
- Taking out garbage
- Cleaning bathrooms
- Restocking supplies
- Cleaning refrigerators and work areas
- Keeping customer areas neat
- Completing opening and closing cleaning tasks
There is no separate cleaning crew following you around.
If something is dirty, empty, overflowing, or out of place, we want crew members who notice it and take care of it.
A good shift is not just about reacting to customers.
During slower periods, you will help prepare the shop for the next rush by:
- Restocking cups, lids, straws, syrups, milks, and other supplies
- Preparing ingredients
- Refilling stations
- Organizing work areas
- Checking inventory
- Completing assigned prep
- Looking ahead for what will be needed next
We strongly value people who can ask themselves:
"What needs to be done next?"
rather than waiting to be given a task every few minutes.
Coffee shops can go from quiet to very busy quickly.
You may have:
- Customers waiting to order
- Multiple drinks on bar
- Food being prepared
- Pickup orders
- Eventually, drive-through orders
- Dishes piling up
- Supplies needing restocking
- Customers asking questions
We do not expect perfection.
We do expect you to:
- Stay calm
- Communicate with your coworkers
- Prioritize what matters most
- Work efficiently without becoming careless
- Ask for help when necessary
- Help your teammates when you have room
- Continue treating customers well even when you are busy
Speed matters, but accuracy, quality, and good judgment matter too.
If you are scheduled, the team is counting on you.
We need people who:
- Arrive on time
- Show up consistently
- Communicate early when a real problem comes up
- Take their scheduled hours seriously
Reliability is one of the most important parts of this job.
There will be fun parts of the job.
There will also be dishes, garbage, sticky syrup, milk splatters, bathrooms, mop buckets, and things that need scrubbing.
We want somebody who is willing to do both.
You should eventually be able to recognize what needs attention without being constantly directed.
Someone who finishes one task and immediately looks for the next thing to do will do very well here.
You do not have to be the loudest person in the room.
You should be comfortable:
- Greeting strangers
- Making conversation
- Answering questions
- Listening
- Working alongside different personalities
- Treating people respectfully
You will receive training.
We expect you to:
- Ask questions
- Accept correction
- Practice
- Follow established recipes and procedures
- Learn from mistakes
- Continue improving
We would rather train someone with a good attitude than hire someone experienced who refuses to learn a different way.
Previous experience in any of the following is helpful:
- Coffee shops
- Restaurants
- Food service
- Retail
- Customer service
- Cash handling
- POS systems
- Kitchens
- Opening or closing a business
- Fast-paced work environments
Previous barista experience is not required.
If you have a strong work ethic, good people skills, and are willing to learn, we encourage you to apply.
We are currently prioritizing applicants who can provide consistent weekday availability, particularly during morning and daytime hours.
Saturday availability is also valuable.
We are looking for someone who can become a dependable part of the regular schedule, not simply pick up occasional shifts.
Please be specific about your availability when applying, including:
- Earliest available start time
- Weekday availability
- Saturday availability
- School commitments
- Sports or activities
- Other employment
- Recurring schedule restrictions
We understand that people have lives outside of work. We simply need to know what availability we can consistently count on.
$9.00 to $12.00 per hour, plus tips
Starting pay will depend on experience, availability, demonstrated skills, and the level of responsibility you are prepared to take on.
Employees who grow in skill, reliability, independence, and responsibility may have opportunities to grow within Nauburn Coffee.
Crew members receive:
- Tips in addition to hourly wages
- Free drinks while working
- Snacks while on shift
- Employee discounts
- Hands-on barista training
- Opportunities to learn more advanced coffee skills
- Potential for increased responsibility as skills develop
Someone who proves dependable and wants to grow may eventually learn additional responsibilities such as:
- Opening or closing the shop
- Training newer crew members
- Handling more complex customer situations
- Managing workflow during busy periods
- Inventory and stocking responsibilities
- Shift leadership
Growth is based on demonstrated ability and trust, not simply how long you have worked here.
We want Nauburn Coffee to be a place where customers feel known and employees are proud of the work they do.
That means:
- Do good work even when nobody is watching.
- Treat customers and coworkers with respect.
- Take responsibility when something goes wrong.
- Help the person beside you.
- Keep learning.
- Notice what needs doing.
- Take care of the shop.
- Don't act like any job is beneath you.
- Have some fun while you're at it.
You do not need to be a coffee expert when you walk through the door.
You do need to be dependable, willing to work, willing to learn, and willing to care about the people around you.
If that sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you.
$9 - $12 per hour
