Basic Responsibilities

• Work with co-workers, contractors, partners, and customers to license Gen-IV molten salt reactors through the NRC.
• Serve as day-to-day contact with NRC project managers and management.
• Lead portions of the development of construction permit applications, operating license applications, and applications for other types of regulatory approval.
• Support the review of applications by the NRC.
• Support development and implementation of operational programs.
• Guide development of pre-application topical reports and white papers.
• Support the NRC review of the Natura topical reports and white papers.
• Support and manage contract work on a variety of topics.

Essential Duties

• Coordinate interactions and interface directly with the NRC.
• Provide guidance and support to engineers in developing technical requirements and designs that will ensure safety and compliance with NRC regulations.
• Communicate and interface with internal and external stakeholders regarding licensing and regulatory requirements for advanced reactor designs.
• Coordinate development and compose portions of applications.
• Compose and guide responses to audit questions and requests for additional information from the NRC.
• Support other activities required to develop and take reactors from concept to operations.
• Work with the QA team, engineering team, operations team, and contractors to implement regulatory requirements and consensus standards.
• Support other required licenses needed including, but not limited to, radioactive materials licenses.
• Coordinate development of pre-application reports and applications for Natura and support NRC review.
• Work with others in collaborative team settings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering or a physical science.
• Minimum 12 years of experience (industry or federal government).
• At least 7 years of nuclear licensing experience, either at the NRC or in a commercial reactor licensing or regulatory affairs group.
• Ability to be approved for access to SGI-M designated material.
• Proficient with general computer skills including e-mail, video conferencing, Acrobat, and Microsoft Office products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Desire to work on a team in a developing field of technology.
• Ability to adapt to frequent change, project schedules, or unexpected events.
• Requires minimum supervision and shows initiative to operate within project schedule and constraints.
• Shows initiative and responsible decision-making skills.

Professional Development Requirements

• Experience with Federal reactor regulations and guidance.
• Understanding of the regulatory processes for the licensing of nuclear reactors.
• Experience interacting with, or working for, the NRC.
• Experience with nuclear reactor design, construction, commissioning, and operation.
• Reactor operator experience is not required but would be beneficial.

Physical Demands

• Work is performed in an office environment; must have the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
• Work extended hours on occasion.
•  Ability to handle stress well (high volume and high speed demands).
• Moderate travel is likely – locations will vary and overnight travel will be necessary.
