Senior Electrical Engineer


Location: Abilene, TX

Summary: Natura Resources is seeking a highly motivated and technically qualified Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design of molten salt reactors and the associated power island. This position focuses on technical oversite of power and controls for systems used in small modular molten salt reactors. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the engineer will contribute to the advancement of molten salt technology through hands-on support of experimental infrastructure, automation solutions, and power supply.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Establish design requirements for electrical power systems equipment and I&C systems.
  2. Review design drawings for electrical power systems and I&C systems for technical compliance with design requirements.
  3. Review specifications for electrical power equipment and I&C systems for technical compliance with design requirements.
  4. Consult with and advise mechanical, chemical, and instrumentation engineers and chemists regarding electrical power needs and the systems required for those needs.
  5. Design of electrical systems for research and development projects.
  6. Assist with cost/benefit analysis of electrical systems.
  7. Assist in developing the technical basis and justification of safety related electrical systems.
  8. Provide technical assistance to those writing electrical portions of permit applications for submittal to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
  9. Maintain a clean, safe, and productive workspace compliant with safety and regulatory standards.
  10. Draft and review technical documents such as work instructions, operating procedures, and maintenance manuals.


Professional Development Requirements:

  1. Experience with CAD software, preferably Autodesk products.
  2. Experience with engineering data management software, preferably Autodesk Vault and SharePoint.
  3. Experience with common control communication protocols and layers such as TCP/IP, RS232, RS485, and Modbus.
  4. Circuit design and construction experience.


Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  2. The ideal candidate will have experience in both power systems design and I&C design, but candidates in one or the other will be considered.
  3. Ten plus years of experience in design of industrial (power plants, refineries, etc.) plant control systems and electrical power systems.
  4. Experience in design for nuclear plants is desired, but not required.
  5. Professional engineering license is preferred.
  6. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  8. Strong communication skills.


Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  2. Ability to climb ladders if needed.
