Summary:

The Natura Resources team is seeking a highly experienced Operations Training Lead to guide a multi-disciplinary team in developing and maintaining an operations training program for our liquid-fueled molten salt reactor technology. This role will drive operational excellence, ensure nuclear safety, and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and regulatory compliance, aligning with Natura’s mission to advance cutting-edge reactor technology. This Operations Training Lead will also participate in a variety of engineering and licensing discussions as needed, while dedicating the majority of their efforts to operations training related responsibilities.

 

Description:

The Operations Training Lead serves as a subject matter expert responsible for developing and delivering innovative nuclear power plant training programs to operations personnel and other facility staff for the ACU Molten Salt Research Reactor and other plant designs being developed. This position combines advanced technical expertise with instructional leadership to ensure training excellence that directly supports safe, reliable plant operations for the nation’s first liquid-fueled molten salt reactor. The Operations Training Lead will coordinate the efforts of other operations staff in the development and delivery of initial operator training and development of continuing training programs. The Operations Training Lead will report to the Director of Reactor Operations and play a pivotal role in supporting Natura’s mission to deliver innovative nuclear solutions.

 

Location: Natura Resources Headquarters (400 Pine St, Suite 750, Abilene, TX 79601). 

 Note: remote employment is a possibility, but in-person presence is preferred.

I.      Basic Responsibilities

• Lead the development of the operator training program for MSR-1 and MSR-100 customers, ensuring compliance with nuclear regulatory standards and consistent with the principles of the Systems Approach to Training of 10 CFR 55.4.
• Participate in the delivery of training to the initial license class at the ACU Molten Salt Research Reactor (MSRR), including administration of written and oral examinations. Interact as needed with staff at U.S. Department of Energy and Nuclear Regulatory Commission to develop the pathway for licensing the initial class of operators for the MSRR.
• Guide the efforts of a team of internal resources, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional development. Provides direction to less experienced instructors and function as training program lead.
• As needed, contribute to the other Natura teams in the development of MSR-1 and MSR-100 systems, leveraging technical expertise in engineering, licensing, security, and emergency planning.
• Coordinate with engineering and fabrication partners to review technical documents, including procedures, training materials, and system specifications.
• Promote a safety-conscious work environment, ensuring compliance with company, site, and regulatory safety policies.
• Represent Natura Resources in industry organizations and external communications, maintaining expert-level knowledge of nuclear operations training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

 

II.    Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, nuclear engineering, or a related field. In lieu of degree must have HS Diploma/GED with 10 years of nuclear operations experience.
• 7+ years of experience in developing and delivering training to licensed operators at commercial power reactor or research reactors
• Other required disciplines:
• Detailed knowledge of reactor operation, systems, components and procedures.
• Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing external contractors.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent the organization in internal and external settings.
• Demonstrated leadership in fostering a safety-conscious work environment and ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Strong project management skills, with experience developing schedules, scopes, and budgets.
• Critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with a strong attention to detail.
• Other beneficial experiences:
• Experience as a licensed Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator.
• Experience in developing operational programs and procedures (NOP, AOP, EOP, etc)
• Formal training or certification as a nuclear operations training instructor.
• Ability to travel, including moderate overnight travel as required.

IV.   Physical Requirements 

• Work is primarily performed in an office environment, requiring the ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Occasional lifting of materials up to 40 pounds may be required.
• Ability to work extended hours on occasion to meet project deadlines.
• Moderate travel, including overnight stays, is likely to various locations.
