Summary:

Natura Resources is seeking a Licensing Engineer to support both the licensing of the Molten Salt Research Reactor (MSRR) at Abilene Christian University (ACU) and licensing of Natura’s commercial liquid-fuel molten salt reactors. As a performance oriented advanced reactor developer, Natura provides an opportunity for the selected individual to grow tremendously in skill and responsibility.


A well-qualified individual for this position will be able to work alongside the highly motivated MSRR team in the Natura Resources Research Alliance to coordinate interaction with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and support licensing efforts. The Alliance consists of ACU, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Natura Resources.


I. Basic Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Alliance to license the MSRR through the NRC.
  • Serve as day-to-day contact with NRC, including NRC ACU project managers.
  • Develop portions of the MSRR operating license application.
  • Support development and implementation of MSRR operational programs at ACU.
  • Support the review of the MSRR operating license application by the NRC.
  • Develop pre-application topical reports and white papers for the Natura liquid-fuel molten salt reactor.
  • Support the NRC review of the Natura topical reports and white papers.
  • Support development and review of Natura permit and license applications.


II. Essential Duties:

  • Coordinate interactions and interface directly with the NRC.
  • Provide support to engineers in developing technical requirements and designs that will ensure safety and compliance with NRC regulations.
  • Coordinate development and compose portions of the MSRR Final Safety Analysis Report.
  • Compose and guide responses to audit questions and requests for additional information from the NRC.
  • Support other activities required to make the MSRR operational.
  • Work with the QA manager, Research Alliance, and designated engineering contractors to document and implement standards and procedures.
  • Support other required licenses needed by ACU including but not limited to radioactive materials licenses.
  • Develop pre-application reports and applications for Natura and support NRC review
  • Work with others in collaborative team settings.
  • Other duties as assigned.


III. Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering or a physical science.
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience (industry or federal government).
  • Ability to be approved for access to ACU SGI-M designated material.
  • Proficient with general computer skills including e-mail, video conferencing, Acrobat, and Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Desire to work on a team in a developing field of technology.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent change, project schedules, or unexpected events.
  • Shows initiative to operate within project schedule and constraints.


IV. Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in an office environment; must have the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Work extended hours at certain times on occasion.
  • Ability to handle stress well (high volume and high speed demands)
  • Moderate travel is likely – locations will vary and overnight travel will be necessary
