 NAMI Southern Nevada is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by mental health conditions through education, advocacy, and support. We are seeking passionate and driven interns to join our team and make a difference in our community.


 Peer Recovery Support Specialist

Temporary – Grant Funded (Ends August 31, 2026)

$20/hour | Up to 35 hours per week


Position Summary

The Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) provides strengths-based peer support to individuals navigating mental health and/or substance use challenges, with a focus on those who are justice-involved or at risk of justice involvement.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position ending July 31, 2026. Continued employment beyond this date is dependent upon future funding.


Key Responsibilities

Peer Support & Mentorship

  • Provide one-on-one peer support and mentorship
  • Assist participants in developing wellness action plans
  • Support participants in identifying strengths, goals, and personal wellness strategies
  • Provide resource navigation and connection to community supports
  • Facilitate or support NAMI support groups
  • Assist with presentations and community outreach efforts
  • Support additional NAMI programs as assigned


Administrative

  • Participates in weekly supervision and in team review of documentation of the comprehensive assessment of participants in various life domains.
  • Creates a weekly schedule that meets existing program productivity standards and supervision.
  • Participates in staff meetings and training.
  • Ensures that all participants’ visits are documented immediately.
  • Ensures that all data is correct by verifying information with the participant on every visit.


Other Duties

  • Demonstrates a level of knowledge and skills within a specific activity to consistently meet or exceed service requirements.
  • Reports any activities that may violate established laws, regulations, policies, or procedures. Raise questions about any actions contrary to law or policy taken by another staff member or employee or yourself, and report the matter to the supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Professional Practice

  • Model recovery principles, healthy boundaries, and self-advocacy
  • Maintain appropriate peer support boundaries
  • Uphold person-first and recovery-oriented language


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) credential
  • OR PRSS intern status with relevant experience
  • Be in recovery for at least two years prior to full PRSS certification, one year for PRSS-I certification. 
  • Lived experience navigating the justice system and ability to use that experience to support others in recovery
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a background check (Having a past discrepancy does not automatically make an applicant ineligible for this position. It will be reviewed on a case by case basis along with all other qualifications).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the local Mental Health System.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, read and send email through Google.
  • Must possess basic computer skills to perform job duties including desktop computing, email, timesheet management, using Microsoft Office Applications, Slack, Zoom, and other relevant software.
  • Must have basic electronic communication and internet skills to gather information required for the program or program participants.
  • Must be able to use new computer systems and/or software functions as they become available.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Experience facilitating support groups
  • Knowledge of local behavioral health and justice systems


Salary

$20 - $20 per hour
