Pay: $19.00 - $80.00 per hour + tips


Position Summary

Mystic Experience Co. is seeking engaging, reliable, and dynamic individuals to join our team as Storytellers / Cast Members for both the Mystic Discovery Walk and Coastal Culinary Tour.

In this role, you will guide guests through downtown Mystic, delivering immersive, story-driven experiences that highlight the area’s history, culture, and culinary scene. You will serve as both a tour guide and host, creating a seamless and memorable experience as guests explore Mystic and enjoy curated food tastings at select partner locations.

This position is ideal for individuals with backgrounds in theater, acting, hospitality, food service, education, or public speaking who enjoy performing, engaging with guests, and creating elevated experiences.

This is a part-time, seasonal, hourly (non-exempt) position. Work is scheduled on a per-tour basis, depending on business needs and availability.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Tour Guiding & Storytelling

  • Lead guided walking tours in a professional, engaging, and organized manner
  • Deliver accurate and compelling storytelling aligned with company training and tour content
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and memorable experience for all guests
  • Manage group movement safely through public spaces, including sidewalks and crossings
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings to support overall group safety
  • Start and end tours on schedule while maintaining a smooth flow throughout


Culinary Tour Hosting

  • Coordinate and guide guests through multiple food stops at partner locations
  • Act as the primary host between guests and restaurant partners
  • Communicate clearly with restaurant staff regarding timing and group needs
  • Ensure a smooth, timely, and enjoyable experience at each stop
  • Provide basic information about food offerings, local cuisine, and partner establishments


Guest Experience

  • Monitor guest well-being and respond appropriately to questions or concerns
  • Maintain professionalism while interacting with diverse groups
  • Assist with general questions about Mystic, including dining and local attractions
  • Represent Mystic Experience Co. in a positive and professional manner at all times


Operations

  • Communicate effectively with management regarding scheduling, guest feedback, or operational needs
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines


Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Strong verbal communication and public speaking skills
  • Comfortable speaking to and engaging groups of varying sizes
  • Ability to memorize and deliver scripted material with personality and adaptability
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in theater, acting, improv, hospitality, food service, tour guiding, or education
  • Interest in food, dining, or culinary experiences
  • Familiarity with Mystic, Connecticut or willingness to learn local history and restaurant landscape
  • Experience in customer service or guest-facing roles


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (approximately 1–2 miles per tour)
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and light rain
  • Ability to enter and exit restaurants and stand for portions of time indoors during food stops
  • Ability to project voice clearly in both outdoor and indoor environments


Work Schedule

  • Part-time, seasonal role with hours based on scheduled tours and business demand
  • Tours may be scheduled during weekdays, weekends, and holidays
  • No guarantee of minimum hours; schedules vary based on bookings


Compensation


This is a non-exempt, hourly position paid in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Connecticut wage and hour laws

Base pay will never fall below applicable minimum wage requirements

  • Tiered hourly pay structure based on tour group size:4–5 guests: $19.00 per hour (base rate)
  • 6–10 guests: $40.00 per hour
  • 11+ guests: $80.00 per hour


Employees are paid for all hours worked, including pre- and post-tour responsibilities as applicable


Overtime will be paid in accordance with applicable federal and state laws

  • Tips are encouraged and often received, with typical earnings averaging approximately $15–$20 per guest, but are not guaranteed and are not used to offset base hourly wages


Employment Classification & Conditions

  • This is an at-will employment position, meaning employment may be terminated by either the employee or employer at any time, with or without cause or notice, in accordance with applicable law
  • Employees will be scheduled and directed by Mystic Experience Co.; this is not an independent contractor role
  • All employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States
